Sri Lanka Exports Cars to India

Sri Lankan car company Micro Cars Ltd will export locally assembled South Korean Sports Utility Vehicles (SUV) to India.

"There is a demand for quality SUVs in India," Micro Cars Managing Director Lawrence Perera told reporters here.

The company has already sent test vehicles to India and received "very good" response, he said, adding Micro Cars would export its locally assembled Kyron SUVs to India from next year.

Perera said the body of the vehicle, mirrors, seats and rubber component including the tyres would be manufactured in Sri Lanka.

"We are in the process of acquiring technology to have more local components to the vehicles," he said.

Perera added that the price of the vehicle would be considerably less than that of a directly imported vehicle.

The company manufactures around 300 vehicles per month which include cars, SUVs & vans for the local market.

The Hiace-based van would be a nice addition to the Indian market, but the Rodius? My little cousin draws better proportioned cars. :D

This is old article, as far as I know we aren't exporting these models to India.

Anyway here are some real pics of these models in SL roads. (for those who love cars)

I am a bit confused,Rexton and Korando and nearly all of these are products of ssangyong,a Korean Company which is owned by Mahindra & Mahindra,a Indian company who assembles them here..

And I dont think the Great wall would sell here

:offpost: but still,Do Sri Lanka have indigenous R&D in automotives?

Hey @Skyline and @Lankan Ranger; Ssangyong and Rexton is an Indian Brand/Marque now. Part of Mahindra and Mahindra.

Of course they are all Indian Brands since Mahindra and Mahindra bought over Ssangyong after it went bankrupt.
Nobody knows Great Wall in India; it is likely to sell as little as Qing Long buses which got called as Ding Dong buses.
