Sri Lanka Cricket Selection Committee Resigns

The Selection Committee of the Sri Lanka cricket has handed in their letters of resignation to the Sports Minister, Chairman of Selection Committee Aravinda de Silva said today.

De Silva said they would make an official statement to the media on this decision tomorrow.

The resignation of the committee follows the resignations of Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardena from their positions of captain and vice captain respectively.

Sri Lankan vice captain Mahela steps down

Sri Lankan vice captain Mahela Jayawardane has written to Sri Lanka Cricket informing them that he has stepped down from the Vice Captaincy of the national team, Secretary of Sri Lanka Cricket Nishantha Ranatunga said.

Nishantha Ranatunga making a statement said “Mahela had taken up the Vice Captaincy duty only till the end of the World Cup. This morning, he handed in a letter stating that he did not like continuing as the Vice Captain of the team”.

Yesterday, World Cup captain Kumar Sangakkara handed in his letter of resignation, citing the need for the team to be led by a player at his peak, at the next World Cup in Australia and New Zealand in 2015.

Man! They reached the finals and played quite well through-out the tournament. Why are they behaving like they've committed grave mistakes?
 
That is a lot of resignations over just one defeat. SL was equal to India in terms of match winning statistics till the finals. In fact, they really creamed the NZ and English teams and were looking all set to put up a tough fight. Why so much over-reaction? Kumar is still an able captain and must not resign.
