Indian fishermen arrested by Sri Lankan navy.for illegal fishing? Or were they trying to do something more nasty such as smuggling illegal weapons into Sri Lanka to support yet another cross-terrorism bid? Just curious.
Sri Lankan navy apprehends 24 Indian fishermen
NAGAPATTINAM: Sri Lankan navy arrested 24 fishermen from Nagapattinam in Tamil Nadu who went for fishing on Saturday afternoon.
As many as 10 boats from Arukatuthurai, Jagathapattinam and other fishing hamlets set sail for fishing on Saturday. They were fishing nine nautical miles off Kodaiyakarai coast.
Six boats returned on Sunday morning. However, four other boats and their 24 crew members failed to return. Later, it was learnt that they were apprehended by the Sri Lankan navy, marine police (coast security group) said.
Police said the fishermen might have crossed the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) and were apprehended by the Sri Lanka.
