Special force set up to combat terrorism in Balochistan

QUETTA: The provincial government has set up a new force for conducting operations against elements involved in cases of terrorism, target killing and kidnapping for ransom.

“The special force will initially comprise 300 personnel,” provincial home secretary Akbar Hussain Durrani said while presiding over a meeting of the divisional commissioners and senior officials here on Tuesday.

Finance secretary Dosteen Khan Jamaldani and director general of the Levies Force Balochistan Abdul Latif Kakar also attended the meeting.

Mr Durrani said the force would help stop terrorist activities, target killings and kidnapping for ransom in the province.

He said the government had also decided to organise Levies Force on modern lines and its personnel would be given special training and equipped with latest weapons to fight terrorists and other criminals in a better way.

“The government is ready to face challenges of terrorism and law and order situation in the province,” the home secretary said, adding that the police and Levies Force had been given a free hand to rid the province of terrorism and to ensure peace and security in the province.

“Police and Levies have been directed to work freely without coming under any pressure from any political party or tribal personality,” Mr Durrani said, adding that no-one was above the law and any person, however influential, if found involved in criminal activities and acts of terrorism would be taken to task.

He directed all divisional commissioners to purchase new vehicles for the Levies Force to make it more effective against terrorists. He said that training centres would be set up in all divisions for Levies Force and its investigation system would also be made more effective.

He said that terrorists and other criminals were well-trained and they were equipped with latest technology and the government would also equip its police and Levies Force with latest technology and weapons so that they could fight these elements in a better way.

He said that restoring the confidence of the people on law-enforcement agencies of the province was the top priority of the provincial government.

It has been said that the intel agencies are themselves responsible for most of the targeted killings, kidnapping and extortion in Balochistan. If true, does it mean that one govt agency will be fighting another? Things could get complicated, what?

Not true. The only thing that the internal agencies have done according to how I understand by listening to stuff in the US is that they've captured (and illegally) many civilians who are either terrorists or were accused to be as such. BUT, that's still illegal. Can't capture anyone without the due justice process.

The other side of the dimension is the RSS,Shiv Sena focused BJP's policies. Where they had started to focus on Baluchistan when BJP was in power. So crazy Hindus (similar to crazy Talibans) were given the task to conduct terror ops inside Balochistan and pay money to locals to join. Money talks and the results is in front of everyone! These Hindu terrorist groups like RSS, Shiv Sena, etc have vast experience with terrorism inside India for decades, where they've killed Christians and Muslims in hundreds of thousands and have been oppressing them for decades. So, that experience is coming handy in the case of Pakistan. Both of you neighbors are responsible for doing terrorism to each other.

I don't know if this is just a special force or it's tasks also include investigation. I hope it is as successful as the CID Karachi if that is the case. Specifically their Anti Terrorism Cell. I mean those guys have arrested god knows how many terrorists @Safriz was talking about extra judicial killing. Chaudhry Aslam (chief of ATC) is already responsible for it-so it is said.

Btw CID should ignore any so-called evidence that comes from US. That will help to maintain its concentration on the TTP and that way they will continue arresting TTP terrorists. Otherwise US has a habit of wasting our agencies time giving false leads since everyone looks like a terrorist to our useless allies.

being a resident of Karachi you should know how many young men simply disappeared from the face of the earth during his time..

I guess the courts should be effective and they should take the lead in punishing the culprits while police should provide better evidences. But it is rather true that the emotional side of me wants to let loose after hearing the daily killings and be-headings of captured policemen. In an advanced society it is indeed the courts that punish a terrorist.

Extra judicial killing is a means only when there is absolutely no other choice left whatsoever. Even then it should be discouraged. But is it effective when the courts fail? I believe yes.

Also it is believed army with support of enraged locals took part in extra-judicial murders of captives in Swat after the end of Rah-E-Nijat. A lot of people supported those killings.

That's actually incorrect. Balochistani and some Sindhi leaders are very well connected with BJP's leadership. Which in turn does work for RAW, provides material support, cash under the disguise of different programs and funds. These are the same folks who fuel terrorism in India. You can't separate the core stakeholders from the issue. Similarly, to say that the Pakistani terror organization didn't have a hand in Taj hotel's event....is flat out stupidity. The bottom line is, both the governments and 'nationalistic and patriot' x-gov't and military political figures help do terrorism across the border and work with their respective agencies. It's not just one country or one group. It both gov'ts, their proxies, militaries and their politicians. But they blame each other, never admit that they sponsor terrorism. SAD.

Extra Judicial killing is neccessory when judiciary don't deliver .We all know from 11 years of terrorism in Pakistan how many terrorist are hanged None.and how many people lost their life 50,000.

Either judiciary is afraid or somebody is interfering in their day to day affair.

In Mumbai Police started killing ganster in encounter and we got rid of the Bad apple from our society but this also have some draw back some time Cops gets carried away and kill innocent people also.

Listen, when RAW was working in East Pakistan, it was Congress govt., ever since BLA and TTP got active and targeting much more, it was Congress that was in power.
