South Korean President Moon Jae-in arrived in Egypt on Wednesday in an official visit that lasts until Friday as part of a Middle East tour that included UAE and Saudi Arabia.

President Moon Jae-in’s visit to Egypt is the first by a South Korean president in 16 years and comes in light of the partnership that has signed between Cairo and Seoul in 2016 during President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s visit to Seoul.

In a press conference, Korean Ambassador to Egypt Hong Jin-wook revealed the agenda of the president’s visit, saying he will hold talks with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, followed by a press conference for the two presidents.

Sisi will also hold a luncheon for President Moon, said the ambassador during the conference.

This visit was scheduled to be made in March 2021 but it has been postponed due to coronavirus, the ambassador said.

On the first visit to Egypt by the President of the Republic of South Korea in 16 years, Moon Jae-in singled out Al-Ahram newspaper with his first dialogue, stressing that Egypt has embraced the first human civilizations since the dawn of history, and is a pivotal country with great strategic importance linking the East The Middle East, Africa and Europe, as well as its leadership of moderate Islamic culture.

The South Korean president added to the writer Alaa Thabet, editor-in-chief of Al-Ahram, that "Seoul" and the whole world appreciate the leading role that Egypt plays globally, especially after its decision to host the next climate conference, and that South Korea strongly supports Egypt in this file, in addition to the continuation of Korea, with its High-tech standards with international specifications, in cooperation with Egypt in the pivotal areas that the Egyptian government pays attention to, such as the metro projects, sea water desalination and petrochemicals.

Moon Jae-in stressed that he is looking forward to strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the fields of renewable energy and environmentally friendly industries, especially with the mutual benefits achieved by benefiting from the network of free trade agreements, in addition to the promising possibilities of cooperation between the two countries in the field of environmentally friendly means of transportation, such as
cars. Electric and hydrogen trains, and the conversion of the new Suez Canal locomotives to work with natural gas and others.

During his dialogue with the editor-in-chief of Al-Ahram, Moon explained that the partnership relationship between his country and Cairo is based on "comprehensive cooperation", which paves the way for expanding the volume of trade and investment between the two countries. linking the continents of Europe, Africa and Asia, to witness further development of cooperation between the two countries in order to achieve the comprehensive cooperative partnership relationship.

It is noteworthy that the South Korean president arrived in Cairo this evening, Wednesday, and the presidential plane carrying President Moon Jae landed at Cairo Airport and an official reception was held for him to welcome him. It included the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

This will certainly succeed as Egypt is leading the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).. a new free trade area extending across Africa. The AfCFTA agreement has been signed by all African countries, with the exception of Eritrea.

The AfCFTA agreement will open African markets up to Egyptian products, ensuring that no customs fees are applied to these products. Egyptian manufactured items will also now find it easier and quicker to enter into these markets

African countries are looking to establish an economic bloc amounting to $3.4trn through this free trade area.
The agreement is also set to gather 1.3 billion people under the largest free trade area since the establishment of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The dawn of 2021 saw the launch of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), after a delay of several months due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

At the Korean-Egyptian business roundtable, Korean companies, including Hyundai Rotem, Mynng Shin Co. and Doosan Heavy Industries signed various agreements for cooperation in the fields of eco-friendly transportation, developing electric vehicles, ICT and seawater desalination.

Egypt's President Al-Sisi discussed with his South Korean counterpart, the cooperation in space, transportation, marine, eco-friendly industries, boosting the Egyptian defense industry sector, conducting a study on Korea-Egypt Free Trade.

Samsung Heavy Industries Group is negotiating with Egypt to establish a fully integrated shipyard in Suez Canal Axis.

The South Korean Samsung Heavy Industries aims to invest worth more than $2 billion in the first phase of the shipyard project.

Samsung Heavy Industries wants to establish the shipyard to be it's regional hub in Middle East and Africa. This would help Egypt to develop its shipbuilding capabilities and industrial base in both military & civil ships, including container ships and heavy tankers.

Germany-based NVL (ex: Lürssen) Group is also negotiating with Egypt to participate in the same shipyard project in Suez Canal Axis, thusl, Egypt will have one of the largest ship repair and building docks in the region with SK and German technologies.

NVL Shipbuilding Group is already cooperating with the Egyptian Navy in the field of marine industries and shipbuilding. They have been working since almost a year on joint naval projects which has been showcased at EDEX-2021.

The Group is going to manufacture multi-role corvetts and Off shore Patrol Vessels (OPV) in cooperation (JV) with Alexandria shipyard/Navy shipyard not only to satisfy the Egyptian Navy needs but also to make Egypt a regional export hub in the near future.

The South Korean Hydro and Nuclear Energy Corporation is scheduled to participate in the construction project of the El Dabaa nuclear plant in Egypt, Yonhap news agency reported.

The South Korean Nuclear and Hydropower Company indicated that it was "selected as the sole bidder for the project to construct other facilities, with the exception of 4 nuclear reactors for the El Dabaa nuclear plant, which is being built by the Russian JSC ASE company."

While the two sides plan to finish negotiations on contract details by next month, and sign the contract by the end of April, according to Yonhap.

Egypt will build another 4 nuclear reactors with South Korea..

Egypt, Korea Agree to Establish Political, Economic Partnership

Egypt and South Korea agreed on Thursday to establish an economic and political partnership within an integrated strategic framework for the various aspects and fields of cooperation.


This came during the meeting between Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and his South Korean counterpart Moon Jae-in at al-Ittihadiya Palace in Cairo.

Egypt is proud of the deep ties with South Korea, Sisi told a joint press conference, calling for activating comprehensive bilateral partnership that would serve the interests of both peoples.

He underlined the importance of holding political consultation and strategic dialogue to push forward bilateral cooperation.

Sisi said Egypt looks forward to attract Korean firms to invest in the country and is willing to facilitate their work in the fields of energy, mining, information technology, artificial intelligence.

The visit comes in light of the mutual keenness to hold talks and exchange visions and views on various topics and issues of common concern.

Jae-in, for his part, said his visit to Egypt is special, saying it's the first visit by a South Korean president to Egypt in 16 years.

He underscored the need to establish a comprehensive bilateral partnership that would bring benefits to the two peoples and promote sustainable cooperation in the future.

He said he agreed with Sisi to expand the horizons of economic cooperation, and decided to boost the value of sustainable partnership by allocating $1 billion in the Economic Development Cooperation Fund and work together to exchange development policies and promote innovation.

Seoul will cooperate with Cairo to convince the international community to respond to the climate change issue, Jae-in affirmed, adding that they agreed to bolster cooperation in the fields of renewable energy and eco-friendly infrastructure.

I can see the k2 black panther replacing the abrams if they can't be upgraded. SK truly has alot of military tech and hardware that really developed its arms sector. Brazil would be another good nation to partner up with since they are at a decent level

The Egyptian Abrams were upgraded to The M1A2 standard.. the K2 Black Panter should replace the M60A3 Patton MBTs that are in the thousands with the Egyptian army..

South Korea is making moves these days in the Gulf and Egypt
Makes good sense isn't it? They cannot convince the world to stop fighting. Better to then make some money while at it quietly while the big boys slug it out. Smart folks. :lol:
