SEOUL, April 2 (Yonhap) -- South Korean Prime Minister Chung Hong-won will visit China and Pakistan starting next week for high-level talks on boosting political and economic cooperation, his office said Wednesday.

The eight-day trip, which begins next Wednesday, will first take the prime minister to China's southern resort town of Boao for a regional economic forum, according to the office.

At the forum, Chung will deliver a keynote speech under the theme "Asia's future and creative economy," during which he plans to introduce South Korea's three-year economic innovation plan, its "creative economy" vision centered on making business ideas a reality and its efforts to promote inter-Korean reunification as an economic "bonanza."

In Boao, Chung is also scheduled to hold talks with his Chinese counterpart Li Keqiang. The two leaders are expected to discuss their countries' bilateral ties, the political situation on the Korean Peninsula, and regional and international issues, Chung's office said.

On the second leg of his trip, the prime minister plans to visit the southwestern Chinese city of Chongqing next Friday for talks with local government officials on ways to strengthen bilateral ties and preserve local historic sites related to Japan's 1910-45 occupation of Korea.

Chongqing served as a base for Korean independence fighters who set up a provisional government in China's southeastern city of Shanghai in 1919.

From China, Chung will fly to Pakistan on April 13.

He is scheduled to hold a series of meetings with Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the political, economic, culture and development sectors, with a focus on helping South Korean businesses expand into the South Asian nation.

Chung will be the top South Korean government official to visit Pakistan since the two countries established diplomatic ties in 1983, according to his office.
