Last year, Modi turned a lyricist and penned two garba songs in Gujarati and this year the songs have made it to all garba venues.
Known to be an ardent follower of all rituals performed during Navratri, Modi fasts on all the nine days and converts his residence into his temporary office. It seems the lines between politics and religion are fading this Navratri.
Lyrics of one song go like this: "Prarabdhne anhi ganthhe kon, Hu padkaro zilnaro manas chhun, Tej uchhinu nahi laun, hun jaate balatu fanas chhun." (I don't rely on destiny for I am a man used to taking challenges. I will not borrow the light as I am the self-ignited lamp).
In his garba song, Modi described how folk art belongs to everybody -- the rich and the poor -- and how it is the pride of Gujarat. His poem is a tribute to Goddess Jagadamba.
Here is a video of the song NaMo wrote for garba/Navratri.
