I think that is a false news. Vietnamese are not stupid, they will not attack China, when they attack in Cambodia.

In fact, that is not a just war for the China.
Cambodia is not the real reason for war, China govt has long understood that they can not save Cambodia.

China govt decision to USA alliance, against the USSR. The war is proof of our sincerity to do.

I think you are on the right track. I have read/heard PLA insiders all but admitting this.

However, if my memory serves from what I read, the artillery radars (courtesy of Sweden, with Uncle's open/tacit approval of course) didn't become handy until the 2nd skirmish with Vietnam around 1984.

Moreover, PRC's support of Pol Pot, at the instigation/urge of "Grand Chess" player Brzezinski, is another chapter too heart-broken to mention.

Khmer Rouge in their hey days made Afghan Talibans look like girl scouts, IMO ...

Vietnam War, we help the Vietnamese. We give military aid to Vietnam, we said to USA: Do not exceed 17 degrees line.
But after the War, Vietnam betrayal China, they combined the USSR to against China.
We have enough reason to kick its a*s.

Vietnam today is using the same tactic the Chinese did with USA decades ago. The difference is in the past Vietnam got a big power USSR backed but China today is alone against almost every powers on this planet.

Vietnam is more dangerous than Japan, at least Japan scare of arm conflicts but the Viets are more extreme and have nothing to loose. Plus, Viet are well known of playing cheat and sneaking like a cunning fox, very annoying. To fight with the Viets, you have to be very brutal and more cunning than them.

China, USSR and Socialist countries helped Vietnam in Vietnam - US war, but China used such help for bargain with US to get his own interest (1972). China liked fight against US to last Vietnamese. The refugees in China today are Chinese in native. They are victim of China's tactics. China believed that without them Vietnam economy get soon collapse, therefore China Gov began the "whisper propaganda to turn back to homeland" and called them back to China. China has been trapped by his own trap.
