Congressman Ro Khanna has won 65% of all votes cast to deal a heavy defeat to pro-Modi candidate Ritesh Tandon in primary elections in California's 17th district that covers part of Silicon Valley. Khanna angered many of his Indian-American constituents last summer when he criticized Prime Minster Narendra Modi's Hindutva politics and joined US Congress's Pakistan Caucus. Vast majority of Hindu Americans, including those in Silicon Valley tech community, are solidly supporting Mr. Modi in spite of his Islamophobic legislation like CAA and his government's extended lock-down in Kashmir and brutal anti-Muslim actions in India.

California 17 Election Results:

Incumbent Congressman Ro Khanna received 46,657 votes or 65,1% of the votes cast in CA17 district in yesterday's primary elections. His main challenger Ritesh Tandon trailed far behind with 17,337 votes or 24.2% of all votes cast, according to New York Times.

Khanna thanked his supporters in a tweet yesterday after "beating Ritesh Tandon who ran on Islamophobia and right wing nationalism in India".

Ritesh Tandon, an Indian-American technology entrepreneur, said Khanna "has turned his back on our allies all over the world, including the nation of my birth, India by siding with India’s enemies like Pakistan on key security issues”, according to Indica News.

Khanna Rejects Hindutva:

L to R: Ro Khanna, Riaz Haq
Congressman Ro Khanna (D-Fremont) tweeted the following on Aug. 29: “It’s the duty of every American politician of Hindu faith to stand for pluralism, reject Hindutva, and speak for equal rights for Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Buddhist & Christians.” On August 17, Khanna became the first Indian-American to join US Congress's Pakistan caucus headed by Democratic Congresswoman Shiela Jackson of Texas and Republican Congressman Jim Banks of Indiana. Khanna's decision to join Pakistan caucus came after he met Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan during his July visit to Washington. After his July meeting with Khan Khanna tweeted: "Honored to meet PM Imran Khan. We spoke Hindustani, and I shared that my grandfather, an Indian freedom fighter with Gandhi, always had a hope for reconciliation. South Asian Americans of my generation hope for peace in the subcontinent in the 21st century."

Pakistani-American Support:

Congressman Ro Khanna has received support from Pakistani-American community for his courageous and principled stand on issues affecting South Asia. He regularly attends community events organized by Pakistani-Americans in Silicon Valley. I met him at a dinner hosted at the house of a Pakistani-American family that owns local Mirchi restaurant in Fremont. He assured the community he would continue to work to address issues such as Islamophobia that affect Muslims in America.

Summary:

Indian-American Congressman Ro Khanna has dealt a heavy defeat to his pro-Modi challenger Ritesh Tandon in California primary elections. Khanna has joined US Congress's Pakistan Caucus and rejected Hindutva. His actions have angered Hindu American supporters of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Cracks are beginning to appear in the Hindu American community. Democrats from the Progressive Wing of the Party are finding it increasingly difficult to support Prime Minister Modi as he ferociously pushes his hateful Hindutva agenda to target minorities. Vast majority of Hindu Americans, including those in Silicon Valley tech community, are solidly supporting Mr. Modi in spite of his Islamophobic legislation like CAA and his government's extended lock-down in Kashmir and brutal anti-Muslim actions in India.

There is defeat for Modi every where you look.

.
Ritesh Tandon and Ro Khanna.

One is pro-Modi, the other is anti-Modi
One aligns with the BJP, the other aligns with the INC.
One talks loud, the other is soft spoken.
One is anti-Pakistan and shows it openly, the other is anti-Pakistan but hides it and even befriends naive Pakistanis...

Wow another Hindu wins...this way the Hindu can capture more power...Being CEOs of major tech corps is just another ploy of HIndus

as a US congressman his first responsibility is to the US constitution and the people he represents. I'd say it is wrong of ANY US candidate to align themselves with ANY foreign party and leader, including the country of their origin. It is one thing to support and another thing to represent responsibly.

It is also idiocy for people to think Modi has somehow lost something because of this sort of events. He has accomplished some of the most complicated promises of the BJP manifesto published before elections : 370 ban, triple talaq ban, now CAA. These are the headline grabbers, I am sure there are a hundred littler things accomplished that don't make such big headlines - number of reforms in military operations, research funding etc.

Whadda twat, openly admitting to the American populace that his interests are aligned with "the nation of my birth" than USA. Amateurism on display again.

However, Ro Khanna is definitely a Trojan horse and in some ways more of a threat to Pakistan than the blatant Modi train.

Why are these foreigners, that seek public office in Western countries, loyal to their country of origin?

Your loyalty must be for the country you are living in. If you care about your country of origin so much, then go live in that country.

This applies not only to Indians but any nationality. And he wasn't re-elected because he was anti-Modi. Do people think India, Pakistan, or Modi matter to Ro Khanna's constituents? Of the 100 things that matter to them, events in South Asia are 101.

If you care more about Modi than US, perhaps it's an indicator that you should go back to India. I met hardcore Modi supporters who think the man is God. I just tell them to go back to India then and live the rest of us who don't care about Modi alone.

Exactly, its just so embarrassing. I know as someone with Pakistani descent, we are not blameless for ethnic politics, but it really has been the Indians since the rise of Modi & BJP they hold everyone to a loyalty pledge and just export their caste based/vote bank nonsense.

Why it is so surprising here?! Every now and then i hear that Muslims loyality to religion as 1st priority and nationalism as 2nd...In that scenario, is it not problematic too??

Indian politicians are now interfering in US elections. How long before these Hindutva crazies start pogroms on US soil? This should be a wake up call.

Asserting that Kashmir is an internal issue for India, Indian-American lawmaker Ro Khanna who recently joined the Pakistani Congressional Caucus has said that Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan needs to cool his heated rhetoric.

"Kashmir is an internal matter for India's democracy and Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan needs to cool his heated rhetoric and not escalate to a war or conflict," Congressman Khanna told members of the Indian-American community during an interaction in Freemont, California recently.

"Imran Khan's rhetoric of war with India is absolutely ridiculous," Khanna, the two-term Democratic Congressman representing Silicon Valley in the US House of Representatives.

Lol, at people who thinks he takes Pakistani position with respect to India.

Logically speaking, Indians are in majority in USA. So if some indian want to win election, good approach is to take side of India (and its government) , and not against it. Pakistanis are very less in silicon Valley so they wont really matter.

Indians are in majority ? what are you talking about. I doubt if there is a one. In parts of CA may be Chinese can make a dent but that's it. There are African American and Hispanic Latino minority majority districts - that's it

a very innocent post but i will try to do my best as to tell you why

Why Aussies in England support Australian team while earning their living in England
Why people living in a foreign country still eat food from their native country.
Why people at the age of 75 like to watch TV shows they use to watch as young/kid.
Why US congressman and govt even need to make any policy about Asian/middle eastern countries
Why US even need any political or business relations with India and or Pakistan.
Why whites choose people of color to represent them
why people of color choose whites to represent them, that is betrayal with their race.

these are the things that are very hard for an Aussie to understand, their method was to totally destroy other culture
