Silent Soldier -Gen. Akhtar Abdul Rahman

That's the error, this free money mentality -- we earn a living, just remove constraints - that's a good start

This disequilibrium is not essentially about India - Deen api jagga, Duniya apni jagga, Deen bar jaye khud, Dunya bar jaye khud. And if balance requires that blood must be shed, lets not be economic about it.

Amen to that.

The recent decent into anarchy is from the start of the Afghan Jihad. IMHO the history has to be straightened out and laid out for everyone to see where we started from to address the present problems.

The biggest arguments that our Mullah's bring to the idiot box is that these jihadis are the offsprings of the Americans! The truth is they are actually the legitimate children of Pakistan gone bad.

Why people remember the Afghan war in the west -- demise of the Soviet Union started from there. What do we have to show for it -- nothing! Our king makers in Afghanistan are insurgents. Our replica strategy implemented in Kashmir failed to dislodge India. On top of all this we could not contain the blow-back, from such an adventure, in our cities and ended up in cultural shift that has led us into a failed society scenario.

If we do a birds eye analysis of the situation -- revolution was induced/funded, revolutionary groups were trained and launched, after the success, we replicated and used more or less the same foot soldiers in another possible revolution but that failed. We are now trying to improvise or conjure up one revolution after another to ensure that the revolutionaries that we trained and nurtured are kept fully engaged. Some times the struggle is against the Russian Bear, the Hindu Monkey (With all due respect to our Indian members), some times it is the Iranian Sher, The Chechen etc. till now when we have finally figured out who is our true enemy --the US. The bottom line is that we could not do what Castro did with Che Guevera -- he very quickly got rid of the revelutionaries before they become counter revolutionaries.

Maybe we should have done the same. But we are not known for our foresight and vision around the world.

1.Must we forget his love and hard work for his country till the end? How he valued his duty above everything else? Zia and Akhtar were a team ordained by the Almighty at a crucial time for the Afghans and the Pakistanis in particular, but for the World of Islam in general. Today the Central Asian Muslims are free of the Communist godless-ness. The Muslims are aroused all over the world. This was Akhtar and Zia's contribution more than anyone's.

2. When at dead of night it was known that the Soviets were withdrawing from Afghanistan, the Col on duty at ISI woke up Prez Zia and told him the news. Zia, after thanking the Almighty, offered two raqats of prayer then and there. Turning to the Col he said, "Son today you are witnessing the birth of many Pakistans." The General, unlike and unfortunately, many today, understood what Pakistan project really stood for.

3. Character assassination is easy. But after Jnnah, Sardar Abdur Ran Nishtar and Raja Ghazanfar Ali, has Pakistan produced any honest leader- honest morally and materially, aside Air Marshal Asghar Khan and Lieut Gen Azama Khan?
