Yep, just the name given by Hunters. Hunting wild animals was a sport, besides Bengal was their Capital, with lots of Jungles around and they almost wiped out the entire Tiger population in the subcontinent.

Yes, makes for a grim reading. Read an account some time earlier that the Bengal Nawabs and the British used to kill hundreds of these magnificent creatures during a single hunting expedition.
