Sialkot looks to fly on its own feet

SIALKOT: The Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has said that the business community in the city is working towards launching its own airline.

“The local business community has pooled in resources to launch its own airline in the near future and necessary formalities are being followed to materialise the project,” said SCCI President Fazal Jilani.

Jilani said that the local business community has joined hands to execute the airline project. “The initial proposed paid up capital of the company is Rs2 billion, which would be raised by issuance of shares to the prospective investors,” he disclosed.

SCCI president said that the initial work required to constitute a public limited company by the name of “Air Sail” has already been completed and after finalising list of promoters, relevant documents would be submitted to the Security and Exchange Commission of Pakistan.

“After completion of the Sialkot airport, a lack of effective air transportation was felt, which would be cost effective for the exporting city,” he said.

To a question, Jilani said efforts were being made for obtaining a licence from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) for regular public transport (RPT), adding that the company, after obtaining the RPT licence, would apply for Air Operators Certificate (AOC).

Full credit to the people of Sialkot, i salute you people.

You built their own airport and made it operational, and now own airline. You did not wait for the ineffective Pakistani power structure to give you a private airport. But at their own expense started on privately financed airport. And in this way help the export industry in Sialkot.

I want to condemn people in Faisalabad area. They had an operational airport which is now almost closed. The decisions taken in other cities, while locals are not as politically active. Faisalabadi's are fools who without stilll requirements always gives their voices to PML-N, but in recompense get these bozos very little return.

Export industry in Faisalabad need own airport, I hope locals require separate airport so Gawadar, Islamabad and Multan have received. In addition to clean-'s International Airport in Faisalabad a supporting airport for Lahore in case there is fog in Lahore, therefore, I think it should be built international airport in Faisalabad.

Pakistan is a country with 200 mil inhabitants, the need for several airports, I know it's only 3 internasjonle airport 100 mil people in Punjab it is too small.

This is great . All major cities should take an initiative like this. This will not only generate profit but will also show to the world that we are not dependent on our incompetent politicians. Sooner than later its going to get competitive and the unnecessary hike of prices will also be controlled. My respect to the people who came up with this idea and want to make it work.

I will love to read this rants on internet about how Punjab is the reason of the backwardness of their areas.
Thing is Punjab helps themselves. FATA and other backward areas of KPK have plenty of wealthy people who dont invest in their areas despite being Millionairs. In Punjab People set up industries and provide employment for their local population. The whole of Sialkot is self made. Every industry there flourish on people's own efforts not Government's.
Phaaashthoon should learn from it instead of tossing the blame while themselves looking for easy money in Narcotics trade , Weapons smuggling and terrorism.
