Siachen- Water collection drill!

You tell me , I just comment on what I saw on this video, the tools they used was so primitive to get water from ice.
What an ignorant post Lamo

Albeit the unpredictable climate, crevices, snowstorm etc which would bury the heavy and costly equipment within minutes under the snow.So it would be an additional burden for troops to look after them 24/7

On top of it Siachen is a logistics nightmare where even a small 23 mm A A gun are transported in parts via light helis and later assembled at the glaciers.

India don't have any direct access to the glacier and heavy lift choppers can't operate in Siachen so obviously we don't need those fancy equipment unless we have to do some PR like Chinese troops exercising in sub zero.

Indian Army stationed in Siachen for more than 30 yeras which is the most inhospitable -50 degree hell hole on earth.

This is siachen where nobody can do fancy PR stunts for propaganda.

No that's not ignorant but to tell that your army is ill prepare to live in such unhospitable area, you can claim that you don't have direct access, but if you already live there for over 30 years, you can bring men there but can't bring some logistic tool? what kind logic is that? and that's not a fancy tool at all, you need water every day, it's a must to have tool, if care about supplier fuel, you can use the manual tool such as this one.

It's so funny that Indian military spend billions on defense and can't afford to procure a basic essential tool (less than 100 USD made in China) for the army:D

:rofl::rofl::rofl:
hello mr senior member would have expected a sane comment from a so called senior member on this defense blog , having said that , must say something thereafter in reply , indian army is not in habit of buying $hit .( so you keep on self boasting while watching big balls of chinese hernia [ actually scrotal hernia ] here on PDF )
on topic , salute to the brave soldiers of Indian army .

When we had to assembled the troops for the invasion in 1984 ,troops had to be transported in few numbers in several sortie of light Cheetah Heli.

Sure there are few incidents when Mi 17 and even Mi 26 was used to transport troops as reinforcement, but its an exception.

That's why India signed the deal to procure Russian KA 226T to replace Cheetah.

As you can see the lifeline of Siachen - Cheetah Helicopter can not carry more than 4 men and heavy equipment.

These light helis fly maybe 100s of sorties to supply essential stuff food, fuel and Ammo etc on daily basis.

Its replacement KA 226 will have customizable module in the back which be a great boost for our positions in Siachen and other high altitude posts in Kashmir and North East.

+ even a piece of snowhut is temporary in siachen due to weather,it would be a great burden to use a heavy equipment.

Can't say about the OP video if it's an exercise.

They should be equipped with manual ice augers at the very least!

Very true, they should ask the guys who were on titanic on which is stronger ice or steel are at -50 C. I dont think drilling ice is possible at that temperature.

@Oscar Sir, are posts like this ok?

Do you care to read #18 post what other Indian said or you just have a selective reading?:disagree:

Is guy in the glasses checking out the girl ?

Life is extremely tough in conditions like these and you got to admire people who adapt with nature here.
I once saw a documentary on a Russian town called Oymyakon which is said to coldest inhabited place on earth. People collect water from holes in permanently frozen water bodies and owing to the fact that ice layer acts as an insulation for water beneath, it ensures year round supply of potable water.
Even in harshest of places, nature ensures, that things necessary to sustain life exist.

And how do you know Indian military doesn't use such equipment? After all it can land a Indian made helicopter carrying 600kg of material in siachen at an altitude of 21000 feet.

Actually several augers were used in the rescue efforts w.r.t those Indian soldiers trapped by that avalanche earlier this year. Theres probably a simple reason they didn't employ them here....probably testing out various ways of extracting water with different items. Very doubtful its SOP. I mean just watch various world special forces training and deployment videos, they often test unconventional methods so you know it works if you are ever in a pickle without the regular gear.

Its best you ignore the chinese teenaged troll here who is probably too weak to pick an auger up let alone use one.
