Should Russia apply to join the European Union?

BRUSSELS - Russia’s EU ambassador has urged Brussels to launch talks with the newly born Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) despite the Ukraine crisis.

Vladimir Chizhov told EUobserver: “Our idea is to start official contacts between the EU and the EAEU as soon as possible. [German] chancellor Angela Merkel talked about this not long ago. The EU sanctions [on Russia] are not a hinder”.

“I think that common sense advises us to explore the possibility of establishing a common economic space in the Eurasian region, including the focus countries of the Eastern Partnership [an EU policy on closer ties with Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine]".

"We might think of a free trade zone encompassing all of the interested parties in Eurasia”.

Is this Putin offering an olive branch? Or note how this was offered now, at the time of Greek vote, perhaps Russia is aiming for Greeks if they vote in a party that leaves the EU.

Ties are not so thin as it may appear at first glance......Greeks are similarly orthodox, Russians are regular tourist guests, Russian investors were not scared like others at the height of crisis and invested sizeable sums in northern Greece, Cyprus was their money laundry island until recently....

I heard some Golden Dawn members claimed that they wanna re-Hellenize Turkey.

Turkey has been waiting since 1987. Ukraine, Russia and Turkey will have to wait long time. EU is facing unemployment and debt problems especially in Greece, Italy and France. They cannot accept more countries at this time. Even Bulgaria and Romania, members of EU, are being kept out of Schengen Area.

There were reasons for Turkey to be out of EU full membership which was mainly to first let the Balkans countries into EU mainly Serbia. Serbia is already in the EU integration process and this Kosovo is like there to let the Serbia EU integration. Bulgaria,Romania and Turkey will join in EU with time as both are hosting US missile shield components. EU and NATO policy is clear from starting just its needed to follow the news properly.

There were reasons for Turkey to be out of EU full membership which was mainly to first let the Balkans countries into EU mainly Serbia. Serbia is already in the EU integration process and this Kosovo is like there to let the Serbia EU integration. Bulgaria,Romania and Turkey will join in EU with time as both are hosting US missile shield components. EU and NATO policy is clear from starting just its needed to follow the news properly.

Serbia is not allowed to be an EU member unless Serbia recognizes Kosovo. That won't happen because Serbia sees Kosovo as a sacred place. Serbia already has association agreement with the EU which for all practical purposes is as good as membership.
