Imran Khan likely in world’s 100 most influential figures

Islamabad: Imran Khan, Chairman Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaaf, is likely to be selected among 100 most influential figures of the world as he secured eighth position so far in Time magazine polling. He had left Gen Ashfaq Kayani, Chief of Army Staff, Barrak Obama US President, and Salman Khan, Bollywood celebrity far behind in the index based on online polling.
Khan was cast 8,695 votes in his favor, which is more than 85 percent compared with votes (1,146) cast against for him.
Gen Kayani secured 863 votes in favor and 1,028 votes in against. Obama was cast 6,487 votes in favor and 3,808 votes in against.
Salman got 2,370 votes in favor and 546 votes in against. Imran is one of the two Pakistani and eight Muslims selected in the index. He has been most popular personality among all.
Time magazine introduced Imran Khan as:
The former Pakistani cricket star and international playboy has reincarnated himself as a pious, populist politician and shaken up the political scene in his troubled South Asian homeland. His party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (Movement for Justice), has emerged from obscurity this past year as a new dominant player in the country’s turbulent democracy, challenging the unpopular government of President Asif Zardari while also capitalizing on widespread frustrations over corruption, governance and U.S. drone attacks.
Time magazine selects 100 most influential personalities every year among political leaders, artists, innovators, icons and heroes who are considered as influential people in the world.
The online poling will end till Friday, April 6, and the poll winner will be included in the TIME 100 issue and revealed on TIME.com on Tuesday, April 17.
