Shoaib bows out with embarrassing ailment
ISLAMABAD, May 21 (APP): Enigmatic celebrity Shoaib Akhter disappointed his admirers yet again as the fast bowler virtually pulled out of Pakistan’s World Twenty20 squad with a taboo-like ailment on Thursday.
An officially constituted Medical Board diagnosed “Genital Viral Warts” as the ailment currently afflicting the Rawalpindi Express who has not been averse to partying and revelry as indicated in some newspaper reports in the past.
Pakistan Cricket Board has already requested International Cricket Council for replacement of Shoaib Akhter from the Pakistan squad originally named for the World Twenty20 Cricket Championship starting in England on June 5.
Shoaib’s Islamabad teammate Rao Iftikhar Anjum was strongly tipped to step into the shoes of Shoaib Akhter who was described by former cricketers as himself responsible for his fitness problems and off-field behaviour.
On Thursday, Shoaib Akhter was examined by the Medical Board constituted by PCB for the purpose of Clinical assessment of the fitness-vulnerable cricketer and was diagnosed with an embarrassing skin condition.
The Medical Board consisted of Professor Javed Raza Gardezi (Consultant Surgeon), Dr. Ijaz Hussain (Consultant Dermatologist) and Dr. Riaz Ahmed (Sports Physician PCB),
The Medical Board reported that “Shoaib Akhter was suffering from Genital Viral Warts and Electrofulgration was done on May 12, 2009”, said a PCB statement.
They further stated that his wound though healing needs further care and treatment for another minimum Ten days for the purpose of healing and to achieve skin cover, the statement stated, adding that Medical Board further recommended his re-assessment after 10 days.
“In accordance with the above program his re-assessment will be carried out” in the first week of next month.
“In view of the above, PCB has requested ICC Technical Committee for the replacement” of Shoaib Akhter, once the world’s fastest bowler, but who failed to impress in the One-Day rubber against Australia on the neutral venues of UAE last month.
In one of some off-field incidents blighting his 11-year long Pakistan career, Shoaib was sent back home on the eve of the inaugural Twenty20 World Cup in South Africa in September 2007.
Someone has got more than his share of Party and Fun it seems. I believe this is the first reported instance of a professional cricketer sitting out due to a STD.
I mean I really like watching Shohaib bowl when on full tilt. Nothing like a true express bowler. the dude could have been an inspiration for cricketers of current generation, but look where's he headed.
Total waste of amazing talent.
