An Arab sheikh is determined to make a name for himself, even if it means carving it in sand so big it can be seen from space.

Hamad Bin Hamdan Al Ahyan had men work on sand graffiti which spelled out "Hamad" for weeks on his private Abu Dhabi island, called Al Futaysi, the Daily Mail reports.

Each letter is one kilometre tall and the full name measures 3.2km from the 'H' to the 'D'.:cheesy:

It can now be seen by satellites in space as well as Google Earth.

The 63-year-old president of the United Arab Emirates also ensured his name would not be washed away by approaching tides, instead making the letters into waterways which absorb incoming water.

Hamad has a fortune in the billions of dollars and is often referred to as the "Rainbow Sheikh".

He is known for his extravagant purchases — including his 200-strong car collection with seven Mercedes 500 SELs painted in the colours of the rainbow, his custom-made, four-bedroom truck and his motor home built in the shape of the world, which is exactly one millionth the size of the globe.

He is a member of the Abu Dhabi Ruling Family and is also heavily involved in medical charities.

UAE Sheikh’s name in sand visible from space

Updated at: 0119 PST, Monday, July 25, 2011
ABU DHABI: The name of Hamad Bin Hamdan Al Ahyan, a super-rich Arab sheikh who is the president of the oil-rich United Arab Emirates, written on the sand so large that can be seen from the space.

On a sandy island Sheikh Hamad has inscribed what is in effect the biggest graffiti tag the world has ever seen.

The letters were crafted by a crew who worked for weeks to create them. The inscription measures half a mile high and two miles long--and the letters are dug so deep that they form waterways.

His moniker is so big it can be seen from space. The tip of the “H” reaches into the strait that leads to the Arabian Gulf, allowing Hamad to fill the first two letters of his name with water. The “M” looks partially filled as well.

The island that “Hamad” has been inscribed on, Al Futaisi, is said to be entirely owned by the Sheikh and contains resorts, a golf course and horse stables.

It is on Al Futaisi island of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The person whose name is written is Hamad Hamdan Al Nahyan a member of the ruling family in Abu Dhabi. It is said that he owns the island.

Well one question i want to ask why did he get it written upside down?

This is the subject person:

Billionaire sheikh carves his name in desert so big it can be seen from SPACE

A DESERT sheikh has carved out a big name for himself — by having his moniker etched in capital letters visible from space.

Workmen scoured "HAMAD" into the sand on the orders of Abu Dhabi's Sheikh Hamad Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan.

The name is two miles across — with letters a kilometre high. It is so huge that the "H", the first "A" and part of the "M" have been made into waterways.

The mega-rich sheikh, 63 — a member of the ruling family of Abu Dhabi — in the oil-rich United Arab Emirates — boasts a £14billion fortune that is second only to the Saudi king's.

His fleet of more than 200 cars — including seven Mercedes 500 SELs painted in different colours of the rainbow — is housed in a custom-built pyramid.

His name is etched on to an island he owns called Al Futaisi.
