Shahbaz approves minority development fund

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has approved Minority Development Fund (MDF) 2013-14 according to which Rs 10 million would be allocated to each of the seven minority MPAs, which is equivalent to the amount allocated to the MPAs elected on general seats, under the Punjab Development Programme MPA Package 2013-14.

The chief minister desired that each minority MPA should identify the schemes out of this allocated amount of Rs 10 million, in view of the official guidelines, while the scheme would be executed by the concerned DCOs. As regards the remaining amount of Rs.130 million, development schemes, having significant impact, should be identified by the district administration in consultation with the minority MNA/MPAs in the cities of Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sialkot and Sheikhupura, having total allocation of Rs 50 million, Rs 30 million, Rs 20 million, Rs 15 million and Rs 15 million respectively.

The chief minister further directed that the development schemes should be identified in the most impoverished areas of minorities, having a gestation period of two to three years, with a view to bringing those areas at par with the rest of the respective city in the long run.

It may be mentioned that these schemes would be titled as “Chief Minister’s Special Package for Minorities” and the allocations for these schemes would be protected in future ADPs to have schemes of bigger scale and size, while an allocation of Rs 130 million for the current financial year would be considered as token allocation for requisite purpose.



QATARI INVESTORS INVITED TO INVEST IN ENERGY: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said all necessary facilities are being provided to the foreign investors for investing in the energy sector.

He was speaking at a meeting with the Doha Group Chairman Sheikh Mohammad Bin Falah Bin Jaseem Jabir Al Sani‚ in Lahore on Saturday.

The chief minister invited the Doha Group to invest in the energy and other economic sectors of Punjab.

The chairman of Doha Group Qatar showed keen interest in boosting cooperation in the energy and other economic sectors.



JOIN HANDS TO RID COUNTRY OF CRISIS: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that Pakistan was passing through critical juncture of its history as it had to deal with multifaceted crises.

Addressing a ceremony on Saturday, Shahbaz said that crises including terrorism, extremism, energy, corruption, poverty and unemployment were challenges for national stability and sovereignty.

However, he said that we should not let down hopes as Pakistan is rich in natural resources and the issue was only their appropriate use in accordance with the demands of various sectors and keeping in view the masses welfare and national interests.

Shahbaz claimed, “If we work with sincerity and commitment we can take the country out of the prevailing crises.”

He also stressed the political leadership to exhibit political maturity, leave the unneeded issues aside, concentrate on the efforts for resolving problems faced by countrymen and putting the country on the path of development and progress.

The chief minister said that it is matter of grave concern that some militants groups of are busy in self-initiated war and massacre of others over minor differences.

Shahbaz said that government was making all out efforts to normalise bilateral relations with neighbouring countries and the day was not far away when Pakistan will regain its lost grace and soft image abroad. He said that we should not look towards foreign aid organizations and countries but develop the habit of relying on local available resources.

The chief minister said that China was a good friend of Pakistan which always stood by it in critical times especially during natural disasters. Bilateral trade with China will be enhanced in the days to be come, he added. He also stressed the need of bringing amendments in rules and regulations to lessen the corruption and bound the public servants to perform duty honestly.
