Sources said the men have identified seven personnel – five of them retired, one in the Border Security Force (BSF) and another in a paramilitary force – from whom the documents were bought. “The personnel identified by the spies are either from the lower rung, or are retired. We have zeroed in on them and they will be questioned. Further arrests will follow,” a police source said.

Sources said the three accused were also taken to the places where they held meetings and exchanged documents. Photocopy shops frequented by the alleged spies would also be raided, they added. “The next week will see a series of raids and more arrests. This may include personnel from the BSF and paramilitary forces. In two cases, we found that the personnel were honey-trapped by the spies into giving the information,” a police source said.
The three, all residents of Rajasthan, were arrested for allegedly passing on information about border deployment to Akhtar on October 27. The Pakistani diplomat, who worked for the ISI, was also an assistant in the high commission’s Delhi trade section.
Maps of border areas and a list of purportedly honey-trapped BSF personnel were also recovered from the diplomat, who was carrying a forged Aadhaar card identifying him as a resident of Chandni Chowk.
On Saturday, an aide of a Samajwadi Party parliamentarian became the fourth person to be arrested in this regard. The accused, Farhat, was charged with providing information – including sensitive documents and parliamentary standing orders – to Akhtar.
