There is nothing special about F-21 except the name. That too to reduce the paranoia of Indian general public and establishment to be not seen as using the same aircraft as PAF has been using for decades.

The only value F-21 deal adds to IAF is the number of offset agreements that obviously come with a number of aircraft procured. Higher the number, the better. Pakistan is in no position to buy 50+ new built US made jets. Hence we will only get a standard off the shelf F-16V which is a direct competitor to Rafale. And it will work for us.

India’s decelerating economy will throw a wrench in their acquisition spree — their are many internals the people don’t know about especially during the 0 rates international companies were borrowing in dollars with variable rates and with strengthening dollar its coming back to bite them now.

My belief we shouldn’t rely to much on acquiring ACs from the US but rather beef up our ground forces especially Armour. Even with sanctions we should be able to reverse engineer and keep these vehicles operating.
