Senior military officials of China and Belarus on Thursday vowed to work together to promote friendly cooperation between the two armed forces.
The development of friendly and cooperative relations between the two armed forces will greatly promote and enrich bilateral relations, said Xu Caihou, vice chairman of China's Central Military Commission, in a meeting with Belarusian Minister of Defense Yuriy Zhadobin.
Xu hailed the traditional friendship between the two peoples and continued advancement of bilateral relations.
He said China and Belarus should enhance dialogue and communication, and increase coordination and cooperation against the complicated international situation, noting that their cooperation serves the fundamental interests of the two nations as well as world peace and stability.
Zhadobin said Belarus attached great importance to developing cooperative relations with China and appreciated China's support to the building of the Belarusian armed forces.
He hoped military exchanges and cooperation between the two nations would be further enhanced in the future. He also wished China success in hosting the 2010 Shanghai World Expo.
Earlier Thursday, Chinese Defence Minister Liang Guanglie held talks with Zhadobin.
Liang spoke positively of the development of bilateral ties since China and Belarus established diplomatic ties 18 years ago.
He highlighted the frequent high-level contacts, ever-deepening mutual trust and expanding cooperation in various fields.
He also appreciated Belarus' support for China on the Taiwan issue, human rights issue and affairs related to Xinjiang and Tibet.
Zhadobin arrived in Beijing on Wednesday for a five-day official good- will visit.
