Self Propelled guns.I don't think so.heck we can't even manufacture smooth bore barrel on Al Khalid.

Pls Correct me if i am wrong.

hmmm..
may be bt in wiki it is stated that this project was revealed in 2002 IDEAS

HIT is making the 125mm tank barrel itself:

::: DEPO - Defence Export Promotion Organization :::

And as for the SP gun, well it seems there was a plan but shelved later on, as till now we have not seen anything in this regard.

But what it seems is that in future HIT may take a joint venture with an already made gun and produce it locally with major transfer of technology, the Turkish Panter howitzer was and hopefully is one of the contender.

Or may be something in collaboration with the Chinese.

In 2003-04 time frame there were rumors of some SP guns by HIT in trials, but since then nothing heard more,.

What is an SP gun? It is basically a heavy gun on a tracked chassis. SP guns are considered cheaper versions of MBT’s. Whereas an MBT is used as a battering ram and or for encirclement, SP Guns can only provide mobile artillery support to the infantry.

Theoretically, if a country can manufacture MBT’s, SP guns should not be much of a problem. Pakistan is currently manufacturing Al Khalid, albeit with gun turrets imported from China and engines from Ukraine. Don’t see any reason why Heavy Industrial Complex Taxila can’t utilize old M-48 tank chassis to scrap together a credible 125mm SP gun.

Sir, PA is going for a standardized caliber, that would be 155mm caliber guns.

Gun may not be a problem nor the firing platform, but main problem would be making the firing mechanism which will give it ranges of 40KM or above. As we say in the earlier SP guns which used to fire less then 30KM, then with advancement in technologies of the ammo as well as the firing systems, the shells now can be lobbed upto 40KM or even in some cases 50-60KM range. That is where the difficulty will lie, and if we can get this technology, well and good, but if we don't then we have to do our own research and it will take time and money.

Best option would be to get into joint ventures and make with collaboration with others.

As a fully SP artillery would be ideal for the PA, and will have greater surviving chance during combat.

Read about Gerald Bull, would give you an idea how the long range artillery came into existence.
