Why are the J-10s releasing flares?

. . . .
Perhapse they do this when they are bombing ground targets to prevent an infrared lock on by hand held SAM ?

I got the same answer on sinodefence. I also saw the video footage of the J-10s and apparently they were accompanying a H-6. It is obvious that they are escorting the H-6 and releasing flares to confuse the hypothetical MANPADs.
