What's new

Scientists write to PM, CMs of TN, Kerala on Kudankulam nuclear plant

First of all do you know what's happening in kudankulam. Have you ever went to nearby villages of kundankulam. Do you know the source of motive for this anti kudankulam propaganda. Have you ever speak speak with any scientist in kudankulam(my own brother is working in kudankulam as a engineer). Don't give some non sense comment about india by living outside of it. I have spoken tens of engineers in kudankulam. This anti kudankulam association only got this sign from IIT engineers. they want publicity(nothing more than that and money for their NGO's especially from USA). First try to learn the fact what's happening in kundankulam. Don't give some clueless words.

And about indian judiaciary Do ever went inside any indian courts while cases are going on(atleast some municipal courts). Do you know about fundamentals of indian constitution. Do you ever speak with any judge in india. Don't give some bull$hit about indian judges especially about SC. Yes they are also corrupted but they will give judgements in favour of one person especially in local and family civil cases not about social issues.

Come on guy. There is nothing clueless about my posts. So you make issue about me living outside of India as if that does what about exactly about my credibility. Plz.....keep your bullshit to yourself. NGOs, USA money, blah blah is all a bunch of BS. The govt was getting fed up with the direction of the plant building, so they used the media and the courts to cruch dissent. If the govt had key evidence, then it wouldn;t use the media to rake this up. The fishermen being charged on trumped up charges is just a sham to keep them stressed about finding the resources to hire a good lawyer to represent them.

Maybe you brother and the numerous engineers you suppsoedly talked to don;t deal with the important issues at the plant. Or maybe, they want the plant built at all costs so they have a job.

As for India courts, the constitution, etc....what;s the big deal. You can access anything nowadays as long as you have the will to read it. You act like the SC is free of corruption.

Such confidence in our country's scientists!!

And you are giving more importance to prof/lecturers from IITs etc than that to people from DAE/AEC. Pure hypocrisy. If a missile scientist doesn't know better than nuclear physicist (wrong concept) than how do people who have no access to the plant know any better?

Who do you think would know more, head of DAE or some lecturer from IIT?

It has nothing to do with confidence. There numerous issues at stake.

Kalam's expertise is missiles. The issue with DAE is that they are not free from toeing the govt line. There is an old tread on this, in which two posters made quite convincing arguements to all the points most ppl are raking up.

I missed those 'convincing' arguments.
I request you to post them here, or link them.
Without a persuasive argument, it is hard to discredit DAE or other responsible organisations, just on the claims of some unknown, unrelated people, even if they hail from respected institutes.

Why does it matter what Kalam expertise in. What if he knows more about the system than others? It might be that the parts claimed mediocre have more relation to his field than others. In any case, what authority do those 60 signatories have?

"As the chief minister of the states, hosting and neighbouring the nuclear power plant, the two of you have a responsibility to satisfy yourself and the residents of Tamil Nadu and Kerala that the plant has been constructed to the highest safety standards," read the letter, singed by 60 scientists. "Any exercise to assure oneself of the quality of components used will have to be done before the plant is commissioned. Once commissioned, the radioactive environment in sections of the plant will make it impossible to access and test some potentially critical components," it added.

The are just asking for increased check on standards, and that is acceptable. Does not says that the components are faulty.

Leave her alone. If she wants to live in her hypocrisy. She is just questioning everyone working in nuclear plants, courts all are corrupt. BTW i had given her a LINK. I don't think she opened that link yet. Did she??

just leave it buddy. whether she understands or not but we explained a lot. Further debate is unnecessary with that mate. And also that will bring some bad flames.

Klotira, Selvan, and Soumya....what gives you all this great trust in our gov't? It is totally corrupt. And because of that corruption, it has been able to compromise the integrity of eveyr institution in India. Corruption is not new but in India it has achieved heights that the Indian ppl can no longer afford. What makes you so confident that DAE leadership has not been tainted or corrupted by such vast influences? Mere cohersion is enough. The same applies to the Judicial system and the SC.

Time and time again, these gov't have engaged in massive corruption. It doesn;t matter who is in power whether it Sonia, Laloo, Mayawati, etc. Even if a leader is not implicated, their subordinates are engaging in such behavior on their behalf. Do you have any clue how easy it is for officials to engage in such behavior? Bidding for gov't contracts in India allows the lowaest bid to win a contract. The bidding process is a closed and secretive process but guess what? If you know the right players who work for the higher ups (no visible connection), they will allow you to see the lowest current bid thus allowing you to win and they get a cut? Who suffers? The citizens as usual. Think about it, Lokpal has not been implicated and the points it raises are so basic to fight endemic, systemic corruption. But the only think ppl on a site like will yapp about is his credibility, yet they don;t question the politican's? What a bunch of f-king losers.

You can debate all you want. All you have to do is look up previous threads on this site involving this nuclear reactor and two posters made compelling arguements as to why this deal should be looked at very closely. Yet, most posters would simly post irrational nonsense to support their POV/logic. There mere fact that 60 scientists are still questioning the quality issues with regard to the plant raises some serious red flags.

You shoot the messenger instead of embrcing what they have to say. As I said, there are other threads linked to this that point out the hypocrisy in the nuclear safety record. All you or anyone else has to do is search for it. It is not that hard.

1. There have been changes brought to the design post suggestions and the problem in Japan.
2. None of the people who have signed the petition are nuclear scientists. If I am mistaken here, please correct me.
3. The problem these people have raised is not with the design of the plant, but, with components of the plant.

Now, question is, what does this have to do with the judiciary? Nothing.
What does this have to do with the DAE? Everything. Processes can be put in place to ensure components are of the quality as suggested by the designers. Not professors who teach astronomy and astrophysics.

I dont trust the govt. I have worked in DAE and trust it.

I have no reason to embrace what they or you have to say.
Nor are we discussing other threads. The topic of this thread is that several scientist have asked the govt to substantiate all the equipments being used in the plant, prior to its operation.

I have no reason to believe that the responsible agencies are not doing that. Nor do I want to believe that an unrelated person, no matter how proficient he is in is field, knows better than a engineer working on site about the state of instruments used.

If you think otherwise, please do share your comments.

Calm down my dear, If was the PM, I would have made the Kudankulam Nuclear energy capital of India with 40-50 Reactors. For the greater benefit someone from the higher up has to take some calculated risks(here in this case the standard safety BAR should be very very high as we are dealing with nuclear plant) .

If things go as planned, KK will get additional 4 reactors of 1000-1200 MWe capacity (KK 3..6). India is following a policy of developing N energy parks (Housing upto 6 reactors of capacity 1000-1650 MWe each) that will make it easier for the grid to get power from and distribute. Another advanatge is that once you acquire a land and create infrastructure, the cost is shared for 6 units and there are no more rehabilitation costs involved. That said, we must also have faith in our N Regulator, AERB that scrutinizes the design before allowing any commercial negotiations for a new reactor technology. The new reactors being imported aren't Turnkey projects and Indian contribution and analysis does help in modifying the technology to suit our requirements , costs and safety requirements included.

@ Nisha
I really don't understand your lack of faith in every Indian institution. Recent corruption and scams do justify you (& a lot of us) not believing what government says, but that should not stop life and development. Yes fishermen do have right to protest and question just like other Indians but once experts including committee from Madras University (who has no relations with Indian N establishment) along with others have cleared the plant, they must see the logic. Today it is a medically proven fact that more people die due to respiratory trouble living near a thermal power plant and more people are displaced due to so called Green Hydel energy than N power plant. India has been operating 20 odd reactors at 6 sites and you may independently verify how many people have been evacuated ever in last 40 odd years due to even a minor incident at any of these sites.

Its not about debate but your points are fall short. If you cannot defend your points, then you are not convincing nobody here

Did you read the link i provided to you? I guess not. By your logic everyone working in our govt. offices, DAE, courts all are corrupt. Read this LINK

Buddy firstly am sorry if i hurted you. Dude to be honest first of all we all have to analyse and accept one fundamental theme for corruption that what is corruption and where it arises. Blaming our govt. or its staff's blindly doesn't going to provide any change in our nation and also in corruption. Firstly indian government is not corrupt or government staffs are also not corrupted, the real corrupts are 100crore indians only. They are giving bribes to government and its staffs for getting one certifacate from government office or to get a benefit or concession from govt in a fast or in a favour of person that stimulates the govt and its staffs directly to get bribes from people. Our people don't want to wait in any government offices for work. They want to finish as soon as possible(from getting one birth certificate to death cerficate from govt.offices). So they are giving bribes to officers to change their order of name in govt offices. And they are electing corrupt peoples because they only help for getting benefits from govt.iilegally. And so many examples are there. So buddy please stop blaming govt. We are the responsible person for everything. Unless until our peoples change their mindset you can't stop corruption. This is never going to happen because our peoples never going to be a true person for our nation.

Oh plz do not confuse my perception as involving all Indians. I know Indians are quite good and hardworking with great ethics. I was referring to the few who happen to be in position that greatly multiply their influence and power, to which they use unwisely. I also point out about the politicans who have engaged in family politics, setting up their family members to take their positions as they step down. It's not just Sonia an Rahul but other layers as well. I know its off topic, but we all need to wake up.

I agree with the analysis more ppl die to respiratory issues but we only get one chance to do this right. That's why I am sayign let's do it correctly the first time. We have capabale ppl, let them analyze this problem and to stop holding their hands behind their back.

Ok guys you convinced me to a degree. I know its not your job to do so. I just want the best for India. I know our ppl are smart and know better, but we know nothing turns out the way we want due to vairous factors which I will leave alone for now. Peace!
