SC storming case: Police issue notice to Sharif brothers

The capital police have decided to reopen Supreme Court (SC) storming case of 1997.

The capital police have decided to reopen Supreme Court (SC) storming case of 1997 and issued notices to Pakistan Muslim League PML-N leaders Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif to appear before Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Muhammad Malik Yousaf in this regard.

"The capital police have reopened the Supreme Court attack case and summoned the Sharif brothers following the directives of Interior Minister Rehman Malik and SSP Muhammad Malik Yousaf has been made the investigation officer of the case," sources said.

Early this month, the minister had directed the police to start the investigation against the PML-N leaders by reopening the case.

In response, the SSP formed a team which collected and re-examined all the details, including the CCTV footages, FIR registered with the Secretariat police and investigation reports prepared by then SSP headquarters Taimour Ali Khan.

Mr Khan’s incomplete inquiry report would be kept sealed till statements of the Sharif brothers were recorded. However, the statements could not be recorded as the PML-N leaders were in detention and later exiled.

The capital police have also started collecting evidence, including the CCTV footages and FIR registered with the Secretariat police.

The high-ups of the police have also sought investigation reports prepared by the then SSP headquarters, Taimour Ali Khan.

ISLAMABAD, May 18: The capital police have issued notices to PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, asking them to appear before the senior superintendent of police within 10 days for interrogation in connection with the 1997 attack on the Supreme Court, sources told Dawn on Friday.

The sources said that the notices were issued by the office of SSP Mohammad Malik Yousuf two days ago on the direction of Interior Minister Rehman Malik who on May 3 had called for reopening of the inquiry into the incident and interrogating the Sharif brothers.

The SSP in his interim report submitted with the interior minister on May 14 sought further direction, either to continue with the investigation or wind it up. He said the step would give political mileage to the PML-N as the Sharif brothers would use it to embarrass the government.

The SSP said that reinvestigation might fail to prove the Sharif brothers guilty because no strong evidences had ever been found against them.

However, the minister directed the police to issue notices to the Sharif brothers asking them to appear before the SSP for interrogation.

The SSP then issued the notices under CrPC 160 (police officer’s power to require attendance of witnesses).

The sources said that in response to the notices, the legal adviser of the Sharifs contacted the SSP and discussed the matter with him.

Nawaz Sharif can only be convicted as master mind.
I wonder what can be the punishment of master mind!

No doubt judiciary is pro Nawaz Sharif and even had helped him by applying NRO for one year after its expiry, and never sentenced any one till todate.

At the end it will be political give and take because Nawaz Sharif will poke Iftikhar chod. to reopen NRO cases, where all main stream political parties are equally guilt.
While PPP will getaway with kickbacks of transit aid.
