New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday refused to stay the recent Bombay High Courtorder on meat ban in Mumbai on September 17 (today).
The Bombay HC had on Monday this week stayed the controversial ban on sale of meat in Mumbai on September 17.
While refusing to intervene in the Bombay HC order, the apex court observed that the issue should be dealt with sensitivity.

Such issues can't be forced down anyone's throat, the court observed.
What the apex court order essentially means is that meat sale can continue in Mumbai today.
While staying the ban on sale of meat in Mumbai on September 17, the Bombay High Court had on Monday refused to interfere with the ban on animal slaughter and closure of abattoirs on that day.
The High Court, hearing a petition filed by the Bombay Mutton Dealers Association challenging the ban imposed by the civic body in view of the Jain community's 'Paryushan' fasting period, said the stay will be limited to the Mumbai jurisdiction area.

A similar ban had been imposed in the Mira-Bhayander and Navi Mumbai municipal corporations in the adjoining Thane district.
But the court said it was not concerned about these “as nobody has come forward challenging the ban there.”
On September 7, 2004, the state government had issued a circular saying that abattoirs were to be closed, slaughter of animals and the sale of meat banned for two days during the Jain community's 'Paryushan' fasting period.
