Saudi warships visit India on 29th July

At least two Saudi Arabian warships will berth at the Mumbai docks on Tuesday marking the first ever visit to India by the Arab nation's Royal Navy.

The warships Al Dammam, a modified French la Fayattee-class stealth frigate and Yanvow, a modified American-built Endurance-class destroyer would be on a three-day visit to India, a Naval spokesman said in New Delhi.

The two warships besides their sailing complement would be ferrying 76 cadets from Saudi Arabia's prestigious AL Fahd Naval College.

"In the course of the visit, a high-level interaction between the navies of the two countries would take place," the spokesman said.

The Saudi Naval officials and cadets would be going on board the Indian Navy's frontline warships including the Talwar-class stealth frigates, Rajput-class missile destroyers and Indian-made warships like Delhi and Bhramaputra-class vessels.

Indian Navy in recent years has developed a very "close and operational" relationship with the Saudi Navy, with Indian warships making regular port calls and visits to the Arab nation.

Last year, the Saudi Naval Chief, who is also the kingdom's Crown Prince, attended the first ever Indian Ocean Naval conclave hosted by India.
