Saudi Arabia aims to raise the population to between 50 to 60 million people by 2030

Many nations in modern history have experienced upheaval when state subsidies are reduced or withdrawn. Look at Kazakhstan. All countries will hit rough patches, it's inevitable.

MBS is surrounded by yes men. Unfortunately, no one has the balls to call out his bad ideas. Pity MBS never played Fallout New Vegas.

Realities on the ground totally destroy your arguments..

Yes man...

I call out bad ideas when see it. Most of these large scale construction projects are just a way for construction companies with links to government to get even richer. That's the reality.

The limit for #Riyadh is 25 million people and NEOM will take care of 10 million, and until 2030 NEOM will depend on government support and after that it will be sustainable.

The Crown Prince: 50 million people, the population of the Kingdom by 2030.. 25 million Saudis and 25 million expatriates

How???
Immigratiin is no no

The Saudi fertility rate is at 2.4 and can increase if the conditions are right..
And yes a lot more of permanent residencies for qualified people in all fields..
Its going to drop not go up

NOEM project is not inline with this Saudi ambition to raise fertility rate since like in many countries like Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and then China where urbanization forces big cities to favor apartments than houses, fertility rate tends to decline because it is not comfortable to raise big families when we live in apartment.

Saudi is already quite wealthy, raising the population is not intended to make them become country like Switzerland and Finland with no say in global power games. Saudi wants to keep being a major power in Middle East if some day Egypt become more powerful economically.

Saudi has huge land, they should build houses than apartments.
If NEOM when down the west coast of Saudi Arabia it would make a lot more sense. Better potential climate with the Red Sea right there, and potential arable land to help diversify the economy. Similar to the California coast, each area of the coast can be independent of the rest and expand as much as much or as little as market forces and investment funding allow. A much better location; along the route to the Suez Canal then the Persian/Arabian Gulf. Building over a hundred kilometers inland and vertically makes the project a money pit as well as a demographic pit.

Hope the Saudis learn from the experience of the Emirates/Dubai, Los Angles, Portugal, and Morocco. People don’t want to live in the desert. There has to be other attractions then tall disconnected skyscrapers for people to look at or work at.
