Consumer electronics major, Samsung, has put the name of Noida in Uttar Pradesh on the top of the world map by housing the biggest mobile manufacturing facility in the northern Indian city. The South Korean conglomerate has opened the unit at Sector 81.

The facility will be officially inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and South Korean President Moon Jae-in on July 9.
Here are some interesting facts about the newly-set up facility:

In June last year, the electronics giant announced a Rs 4,915-crore investment plan to expand the Noida facility. In a year's time, the new facility is ready for production, which the double output for the company.
The company currently manufactures 67 million smartphones in India. With the new plant coming into operation, it is expected to manufacture nearly 120 million mobile devices.

The facility is expected to double Samsung's production capacity of consumer electronics like refrigerators and flat panel TVs, further consolidating the company's leadership in the segment.
At present, India attributes to 10 percent of overall production capacity of Samsung. Through this plant, Samsung aims to take it to 50 percent over the next three years.

President and CEO of Samsung India, HC Hong, said that a bigger manufacturing plant would help the company cater to the growing demand for Samsung products across the country.

The new facility will reduce the time its goods take to reach markets, Tarun Pathak, Associate Director at Counterpoint Research told news agency IANS.

Samsung is expected to create 15,000 jobs through the new manufacturing unit.

So all Noida-ites go Gangnam style now.

South Korea is an amazing country to collaborate with. I don't understand why we don't conduct more military collaboration with their technology firms and run after Tier-1 powers who have no intention to see us rise up.

Korea, Sweden, Japan, Norway, Switzerland, Austria, Israel, Singapore, Serbia, Georgia, Ukraine etc are countries which have excellent technologies and do not really have any qualms in collaborating with us. These countries are friendly to us and don't really care whom we have relations with or who are our other suppliers.

  • South Korea has excellent naval and aerospace military technologies
  • Sweden has an excellent naval and aerospace industry
  • Austria and Switzerland are well established in land systems and armaments
  • Japan is excellent in everything; they are not very viable due to their lack of autonomy in decision-making from USA.
  • Georgia and Serbia have a strong small arms industry and experience
  • Ukraine has an excellent aerospace sector and has been a long-term supplier of transport aircraft to India
  • Israel and Singapore are close allies with excellent precision manufacturing capabilities and are very open to technology sharing.
Instead of running after US, UK etc, we should focus on a mix of Russia and these countries. Turkey that ways is super smart in getting their industry up and running while quietly working with second tier regional powers such as these.

South Korea, Japan, Vietnam and India alliance is inevitable.

Is the public aware that is factory is in UP ? :D

The military technologies that we are in need of, the Koreans don't possess. And technologies that the Koreans do possess, we already have all of that and more.

The military technologies that we are in need of, the Koreans don't possess. And technologies that the Koreans do possess, we already have all of that and more.

  • Koreans possess successful and proven aerospace technologies. We don't.

  • Korean naval technology is one of the most advanced in the world. Our shipyards cannot even produce one tenth of the DWTs that they can in four times the time provided.

  • Korea's material sciences and opto-electronics are one of the most advanced on this planet (Samsung itself has a major military R&D arm in Korea). We don't even hold a candle to them in this particular area. If yes, name me one unique material that India has discovered in aerospace and defence sector on its own which has become global. One material.

  • Korea's manufacturing and supply chain management is the best in the world while we all know the state of our defence production agencies.

  • Turkey has progressed far more in the space of manufacturing their own defence aircraft than we ever have because they are collaborating with Korea on this. Meanwhile India was sanctioned first time by US for 1998 tests and then again, like idiots, we have gone back to US for the GE-414 engines rather than selecting Eurojet or NPO Saturn for engine partnership.

  • Korea's K-2 Black Panther battle tank is the most sophisticated battle tank on the planet right now (ahead of Leopoard of Germany, which itself is far superior to US, UK and Russian tanks). Arjun is an excellent platform but look at the timeframe and the politics that is being played to induct it compared to the induction of K-2's scenario with Korean Army.
___

The only place where we are ahead of them is the military nuclear technology, space launches and satellite development.

Let's not assume things just because they don't assert themselves as a global power.

Do you know about Samsung @ Noida

1. 70,000 people are employed by the plant in Noida- Equivalent to total population of many cities
2. Software products designed for Samsung’s smartphones in India are developed by R&D teams in India
3. Capacity of the plant will double from 67 million to 120 million phones for the year, making it one of the world’s largest- More than half of total population of pakistan

What is Noida... is it a subsidiary of Nokia?

We have everything that the Koreans do and more. Don't forget that we have built our own carrier and nuclear submarine. Not to mention our own air to air missile. All three are pretty much the hardest things to do. Take LCA, we developed our own FBW, while they simply imported theirs from the US. We have even developed our own turbofan, which we will be using on the AURA and even warships.

As for the Black Panther, no the Americans and Russians are way ahead. But the Koreans do have pretty good SPHs, we bought their K9 Thunder. Can't compare the Arjun and K2 since our operational requirements are different. Even the K2 wouldn't meet IA requirements.

The Koreans have good technology, but India is many steps ahead overall.

My point is they don't have anything that we really need. And the stuff we really need, it's the tier 1s who have it.

The two main schemes offered by the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY) under the ‘Make in India’ program to attract investment in electronics manufacturing are – Electronic Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) and Modified Special Incentive Package Scheme (M-SIPS).

1) GOI offers financial assistance up to 50% of the project cost.
2) brownfield EMCs, up to 75% of the project cost is subsidized.
3) In addition, the M-SIPS provides capital expenditure subsidies in investment for both green field and brown field EMCs.

Ok, so when Pakistan offers concessions to investors, we are selling out, but Indians do the same its a game changer?

By 2022, India’s smartphone users are expected to shoot up to a whopping 442 million

Sources said Samsung had pumped in Rs 4,915 crore for expanding the unit, from where it plans to not only cater to the India market but also export phones to Europe, West Asia and Africa.

So you can understand the difference between biggies investment in India and pakistan !
