What's new

Samsung Electronics says to start building new China memory chip line this month

it's true.
China's auto&phone&ANYTHING markets are simply too big, no.1 nearly in any goods.
Samsung stands for 1/4 of korean GDP, they have to be discreet next time.
True. From an accounting perspective if your corporation has two customers that make up 50% of your revenue, it's not consider a good thing due to going concern. SK is that entity. There is no guarantee that Samsung tech will not be surpass by other companies. That would be a blow to their economy

How come Samsung not built it in Vietnam or India?
Samsung total investment in VN is $17 billion. Half of all Samsung world smartphone output comes from VN factories. The Kimchi will move factories to VN not only because its population is shrinking faster than those of Japan.

Are you blind? I'm asking why isn't Samsung building the memory chip plant in VN

Rising population is not a good thing when automation and AI are right around the corner.
Korea and Japan are doing the right thing by reducing their population numbers. It'll allow for a higher quality of life per person despite their total economic output stagnating or shrinking. Automation will allow industries to produce far more with far fewer workers, which is why Vietnam's 95 million (And rising) population is going to be a gigantic liability in the future. High IQ countries at the forefront of automation will lead the world in life quality while high population countries will experience much lower quality of life.

We have to let go of this idea that populations should grow indefinitely. That's just a dumb idea that's asking for trouble.

Where is the word „memory“ in your question?

Korea will follow Japan with decades of stagnation and depression.

Stagnation in terms of total economic output, maybe. But again, why does that matter when the quality of life and income of a typical Korean will improve drastically from a lower population? The effects are already starting. Gallup found that Koreans have the highest median income in Asia. Their incomes and quality of life will continue to climb as their population falls.

Developing countries can keep reproducing at such a high rate and boast of their total economic output, but what's the point when most of the country is poor as dirt?

The only people that benefit from high populations are large asset owners that get richer through higher asset valuations and lower incomes. Do you own factories in Vietnam? Do you own lots of real estate there? You probably don't, so why would you want a higher population figure?

I'd rather live in Switzerland with its 8.4 mill population and $80,000 average income than live in China, India or Vietnam with their hundreds of millions or billions of people who are almost all poor.

Nothing is good if the population shrinks and the work force is old. Such societies are doomed.

Quality of life and income will rather shrink not rise.

You mean it's not good for wealthy people who need to pay their workers more and whose real estate values fall. It's better for everyone else. Everyone else makes higher incomes and pays lower rent. Why would you want to enslave your fellow brethren to a life of sweatshop-like conditions? Just so you can brag about your country's GDP on an anonymous board? What is wrong with you?

This is only true if there is a massive skilled labor shortage such that a country can't produce enough to meet its demand. Then you end up with hyper-inflation.
Korea doesn't fit this criteria. They probably have more skilled labor than there is employment for.

Supply and demand. Everything will be more expensive and scare if the working population shrinks. The price of fix assets as real estate tends to dive in country with shrinking population. I would not invest in real estate markets Japan or Korea.

1) I've already explained, this is only true for some countries, namely developing countries without a sizeable skilled labor force. Korea isn't one of those countries and they'll do better off with a smaller population.

2) Japan and Korea are investing heavily in automation to make up for any production short-falls from a reduced labor force. This is the route I think every other country should take.

3) Also, in what dimension is it good for the people if real estate prices skyrocket to the point where no one can afford to buy a home? Rampant real estate speculation is the reason why so many people in the US are poor. It's driven up the prices of houses so much that many Americans are now paying over half of their wages to rent.

The German automakers employ more people today than a decade ago. Pls note, Germany probably has the most advanced automobile industry in the world, with robots and automation process from design to production. Robots making people jobless is a myth.

A future oriented country needs young people. Old people are of the past.
