Saudi Military Industries (SAMI) today announced that it has entered into a memorandum of agreement with Figeac Aéro, one of the world-class French airlines specialized in the manufacture of structural and precision parts and engine parts of light alloy and hard metal.

The MoU was signed at the Paris Air Show, the world's largest aviation and aerospace event, to be held at Le Bourget Airport in the French capital.

The agreement included the establishment of a joint venture between SAMI and Figeac Aéro to build a facility in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the manufacture of metal aviation structures.
SAMI will own the majority of shares in the new entity, which will execute contracts for the manufacture of metal components for military and commercial aviation; The project is for two and a half years.

"We are delighted to partner with a world-class company such as Figeac Aéro, and look forward to working closely with them in the future," said SAMI Chief Executive Officer Andreas Schweer. In line with the objectives set out in Vision 2030. By building solid foundations for original manufacturing, we will be able to achieve significant cost savings and ensure a safer future for the Kingdom and its people at the same time. "

Figoac Aéro, Jean-Claude Mayar, said: "After a four-year study with several potential partners around the Saudi system, we concluded that our partnership in the future joint venture with SAMI will enable Saudi Arabia to developi their manufacturing capabilities and building their own aviation industry, along with their associated supply chain. We are very excited about this new industrial project, and we will strive at Figeac Aéro to make it a success. "

The new facility, which will be located either in Riyadh or Jeddah, will be managed and operated by qualified and highly trained Saudi engineers and technicians. The activities to be carried out at the facility include automation operations such as sheet metal works, surface treatment and sub-assemblies; To deliver the goods in their final form to the customers.

The facility will benefit from aeronautical qualifications and licenses to provide spare parts, including parts of commercial aircraft wings of titanium.

In addition, the program will support other joint ventures of SAMI in order to promote the localisation of military industries in line with the vision of the Kingdom of 2030.
