Sachin Tendulkar set to become IAF officer

Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar [ Images ] will add another feather to his hat. The master batsman is set to become the first cricketer to work with the Indian Air Force.

After much debate, the Indian Air Force finalised plans to make Tendulkar honorary Group Captain of the Indian Air Force.

The Air Force has forwarded the necessary documents for formalities to the Defence Ministry. But the Prime Minister's Office and the President will have to give their consent before any official announcement is made.

what will his role there, i mean he'll work as ground captain, will he also fly planes or what..?

Ya ya that was good news, I think it is aimed at recruiting cadets for the Air forces. Another example would be Kapil Dev in territorial Army as colonel.

Sportsmen though serve their countries but they can never match the sacrifices and hardships suffered or offered by a solider(pilots in this case) , I think he should be given the lowest rank (an honorary one) . Just because he is the best batsman in the world doesn't mean He has the caliber to rise above a very dedicated Wingcommander ... If they want to use him mainly for recruitment purposes then they should do proper advertisement campaign instead of making him a Group Captain.

Proud to see that the legends and icons of our country have so much respects for the armed forces. Earlier Kapil Dev and Mohanlal became officers of Indian Army.
