ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique on Wednesday said all those causing loss to Pakistan Railways through fraud, forgery and malicious conduct would be brought to book.

The minister said this during a meeting convened in Ministry of Railways to discuss major cases of Railways pending in National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

The minister was apprised of the present situation as well as future implications of the legal proceedings regarding the mega corruption cases pending, either initiated by the ministry or the Supreme Court through suo moto notice.

The matters, brought under discussion included leasing of 100,000 sq ft railway land situated at Bank Road in Rawalpindi, procurement of 69 locomotives from M/s Dong Fang Electric Co, procurement of 75 Locomotives Enquiry Report, Railway Golf Club Royal Palm Investigation Report and bulk illegal sale of Railway scrap material.

While speaking to NAB officials, the minister said, “Investigation should be put on fast track so that required results are achieved.”

The minister instructed the officer of Railways Ministry to extend full cooperation to the NAB Investigating team.

He said all registered cases would be pleaded in court of law actively to their logical end and every single penny withdrawn illegally should be brought back.

In order to expedite the matters, legal department of Pakistan Railways is going to be upgraded, said the minister. The post of Director (Legal) shall be converted into DG (Legal) as a result of this upgradation.

An eligibility criterion has been set and services of a well reputed High Court retired Judge will be hired. The minister directed the officials concerned to complete all legal and procedural formalities as soon as possible.
