What's new

Saab JAS 39 Gripen - company shifts focus on Smaller orders 30-40 fighters

Bass ker do bhai... Jf-17 will soon be at same or higher level then Gripen.
WE SIMPLY DON'T NEED THIS THING.

.
Again the same nonsense discussion of getting gripen or RaFale. It has been discussed few million times here before so why mods again allow these kinds of threads.
Gripen is smaller F16 for us because it is sanction prone and was twice rejected by PAF because of this fact which few fanboys here just don't understand.

. .
Well in 2004 our government formally wanted to purchase 40-60 Gripen fighters for our airforce

Now 2011 , we still have a golden opportunity to get these planes.

The Gripen program , is supported by recent purchase of planes from Swedish government itself, so its not like that it has peaked if anything this program will continue to evolve.

Financially speaking the moment is right for us to get 40 planes

a) SAAB will be looking for a quick bounce back after loosing out on MRCA
b) They are open to smaller orders ideal for our needs
c) They have already done business with us on AWACs so there is a business understanding
d) The integration of AWACs and Gripen would be smooth process.

The NAVY could surely use these planes more then the airforce - and these would be great asset with their ANTI ship missile carrying capabilities

The ability to get acccess to the AESA radar/source would be wonderful if we can get into such a transfer of technology

J10B is wonderful plane and it will be a front line craft , Gripen would be ideal for our NAVY closely integrated with AWACS protecting our sea vessels - The mirages will have to get retired fast

.
First question is: Will they (or will they be able to) sell us ? The engine is American and again we will be stuck with longterm problems of parts etc. Sweden has refused to sell us Gripen in the past. Even the Eyrieye were given to us on the basis that they are for naval survellence.

Second: Do we have the cash ? NO

.
God knows why people don't understand that fact that buying a new a/c is not a problem(for countries with something in pockets), keeping it operational in numbers and in good shape even after 10-15yrs is the main issue...deals are made while keeping in mind the future prospects of the a/c not personal likes/dislikes....

For PAF, Gripen's chapter is over....bending towards a US powered a/c is not going to happen ever!

.
Well , we do have funds we always have fund that has never been a problem

The question is , right now , SAAB factories must be empty no new contract , and if we place an order now likely we should get deliveries in 1-2 years for our Navy's need

We will spend cash on Mirages , lets just get the 40 SAAB Gripens for our NAVY , plus SAAB Gripen with AESA would make these fighters very useful in NAVAL combat and put us in a distinct advantage

Its not a good idea to maintain 80 outdated Mirages (yes they are great still for 3-5 years) but if we can get them replaced by Gripen in 1-2 years its good to do it before pilots lifes are lost

I think the oppourtunity to explore possibility of sharing knowledge with R&D on Grippen and sweedish developers on AESA would be ideal for our own research and development effors:smokin:

The knowledge attained by operating this plane and its avionics would be great asset on top of its usage

Its not about money...its about need....when Thunder is maturing day by day, and the fruit of decades of patience and hard work is riping then there is no need to distribute the funds in any other direction....

Mirages are like 'pets' of our flyers since mid60s, the experience and modernization done on the type will go in vain if we induct Gripen.

Also the F-7 and Mirage Squadrons are already line up for Thunder, the whole modernization doctrine have to be re made for this deal....which is not possible...so we stop planning about those things which are never going to happen!

abay bhai... KON SE PESAY ?? even the recent news of urgent production of 50 Jf-17 is funded by China. Pakistan is PHUKER right now.
on the other hand, we can produce two high profile, state of the art JF-17 in an equal price of one Gripen.

.
We gona over this a million times... stop wasting thread space yaar... not only that we have gone over it better PAF has the ones that decide what they need or reject. It has american parts simply not gona happen ever specially now after all that going down you think PAF would try for it agian after rejecting the possiblities i my self love the aircraft but it won't happen so stop wasting thread space about silly wet dreams.

.
Why would PAF spend very l;imited Money on YET ANOTHER single engined 4th gen fighter.

Gripen is + or - 10% OF F16/52 or FC20 so it brings similar range sim, ilar load and ultimately similar performance.

IF PAF really wants to push the fleet forward go for a twin engined fighter to mix with FC20/THUNDER./F16 COMBO

The best air forces have hi lo mix fleet

ie F16/F15
Rafale mirage2000
Flanker/j10
ETC

.
what we need now is Air superiority jey enough of this light weight multi role all of airforces atleast had one air superiority jet which means multi role gonna be ashes against any air superiority jet becoz it is made to have air superiority if you had you win 90 percent fo war

. .
Waste of bandwidth both J-10B and Gripen would have similar capabilities with +/- therefore we don't need airplanes with similar capabilities, J-10B procurement by PAF is obviously due to F-16 future uncertainties those sanctions and what not.
