Russian troops kill 49 militants in massive sweep

MOSCOW - Russian troops on Sunday reported killing 49 militants in a massive security sweep that followed angry comments from President Vladimir Putin about raging violence in the troubled North Caucasus.

The National Anti-Terror Committee said the operation was conducted across several republics in the volatile Muslim region and resulted in the removal of some of the most “odious” guerrilla commanders and their followers. “The coordinated action helped terminate the activities of several odious gang leaders, gang members and their associates, substantially damaging the system under which the bandits operate,” the Interfax news agency quoted a committee statement as saying. The committee said the “large-scale and massive” raids involved both local and federal troops and that 90 militia bases had been destroyed. It gave no details about the time frame for the operation or when it began.
Putin held a meeting on Friday on the North Caucasus in which he berated officials for failing to do enough to bring the region under full control after it witnessed two post-Soviet wars for the independence of rebel Chechnya. The region has since witnessed an Islamist insurgence that has focused most heavily on Chechnya’s larger eastern neighbour Dagestan and the poverty-wrecked republic of Ingushetia. Russian official are especially concerned about security on the restless frontier as they prepare to stage the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in the nearby Black Sea resort of Sochi.
Putin referred to the Winter Games and Russia’s subsequent plans to host the football World Cup in 2018 as reasons to keep a close eye on the problem. “I would like to point out that a series of very major events — both sports-related and political — will soon be held in Russia,” Putin told his top security advisers at the meeting. “It is a matter of honour for all law enforcement officials to ensure that these events are staged in a normal, business-like and festive manner, so that nothing can put a pall over these events.”
Putin did not specify what political events he had in mind. Russia held elections in March that saw the veteran leader return to a third presidential term.
Security officials last year announced they had uncovered a plot to attack Sochi during the Olympics that they linked to guerrillas based not only in the North Caucasus but also Georgia, Russia’s regional foe. Officials in Tbilisi angrily denied the charges and accused Moscow of trying to pin blame on them for their own security problems. The Anti-Terror Committee statement listed a series of operations conducted in Dagestan and other republics that resulted in the discovery of huge caches of arms and explosives.
It added that 30 people had been arrested while another 20 were “convinced” to appear at police stations voluntarily and confess their involvement in rebel gangs. Ingushetia president Yunus-Bek Yevkurov published what he said was his personal mobile phone number that the rebels could use to confess their past illegal activities and come clean.
“Today, you can all return home having repented for what you have done,” Yevkurov wrote in his blog. “I promise everyone who comes in peace and gives themselves up that they will have all their rights protected,” he said.
But the RIA Novosti news agency said only 17 militants had handed themselves over to Ingush authorities voluntarily in the past two years. The death of 49 guerrillas in a single Russian operation would be a serious blow to rebel forces that have reportedly lost slightly more than 300 men since the start of the year.

What has the increase in muslim population, islamic revival has to do with jihad? Or are you implying that they are related? Canada has a growing muslim population, but very little islamic terrorism.

See, there is just more than one way to crush something other than just brute force. It can be a mix of force and coercion. And it worked well. The moment died a natural death despite having all the support of radical salafist governments from across the islamic world.

The first tactic was to use brute military force in which almost entire Chechnya was locked out and bombed with tremendous firepower. Grozny was reduced to ashes.

The second step was, assimilate separatist leaders with a power offer that they want UNDER Putin's thumb. Those who seek power for personal glory almost always end up agreeing for such agreements.

And it worked.

In short, the separatists had only two options: Either take Putin's hand or be extinct.

They were wise to choose the power offer.

What Russians were concerned with was the kind that was promoted by Duka Umarov. Separatist one. Not a personal revival of belief among Russian muslims.

See don't automatically assume that just because someone shares your religion means he cannot be loyal to his country which can be non-Muslim nation.

Let's see why our government won't have the balls to do this:

1- USA

Follows its military acts word to word. Doesn't give a damn about secularist treachery when it comes to protection of the country. Has the firepower to take on the entire islamic world if that is the worst option available.

2-Russia

Gives a damn about what others think if its national interests are under threat. Has little regard for life despite a lowly populated geography and when shyte hits the fan, have shown willingness to go to any extent to destroy threats or even those who are perceived threats.

Has enough fire power to exterminate regions around the world having multiple countries with a blink of an eye.

Sits on vast natural resources, has a devastating armory of weapons and that too under one Thumb: Putin's.

3-China

Very ambiguous; shadowy and secretive. No one knows what goes on in China in terms of the intensity of jihad raging, how islamist factions are being dealt with. However, judging by the communist mentality, one can easily imagine the spanking that jihadists might be getting at the hands of the Red Guard and the PLA.

Have little regard for what the world says if their country's position is compromised.

4- Israel

National interests, core culture and faith takes priority over anything outsiders say. Whether European liberals or American Democrats, Israel's primary objective is securing the Jewish interests and ensuring that their ancestral lands are in their control. Secularist traitors have little or no say in Israeli politics and Israeli military doctrine successfully beats the treacherous trait out of any would-be treacherous person as well.

Tremendous battle-readiness and armed to teeth with a deadly accurate arsenal of weapons.


5- India

Votebank, power, money and interest of foreign masters is the top priority of the so-called government of the country. Lethargy, ineptitude, apathy to public woes, disregard for citizens' welfare, concern for life or hatred and self-shame of the Culture of Land are the typical traits that define Indian political mindset and public mindset.

Rules are meant to be broken, juniors, socially/financially lower people are to be oppressed, regionalist mindset and a ballooned ego to match all those traits, is the most prominent trait in our country.

This coupled with a de-centralized decision making, civil and external security apparatus, multiple agencies with no head or tail, poorly armed civil defense and under-armed military units spell the usual disaster and we always end up playing catch-up with other countries.

Hence we cannot learn from these countries you mentioned.
