OK I accept it isn't quite a high-quality film. About a month or so ago I watched the year 2000 TV adaptation of the sci-fi book Dune and the technical quality of that 21-year-old three episode TV series is a lot better than this Russian film.

And whats "the west"? Movies like american sniper were complete flops in Europe.

When you want a guaranteed flop you only need to publish american bullshit war movies in Europe.

Russian cinema has a general problem and its simply that its movie are extremly cringe to a european audience. There is no subtile things, they smash the message into your head with a sledge hammer. That makes the entire movie cringe. I think Russia never really understood how europeans think.

That may be the case of current Russia films but years ago I have watched the USSR-time film Stalker which was a long, subtle, philosophical one which makes one to stop watching but simultaneously keep watching. It has become a cult film. And I missed watching the original USSR's Solaris by the same director Andrei Tarkovsky.
