Russia to show new tank in India

Moscow, March 26 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Russia will display a prototype model of its new T-90S tank at the Defexpo 2012 arms exhibition in India this week, arms firm Rosoboronexport delegation head Viktor Komardin said Monday.

"This new tank will be the gem of the show," Komardin said. "Its first foreign presentation will be the main event," he added.

"The Indian Army already operates the T-90, so its modernized variant - which, by the way is an absolutely new machine - will be of great potential interest to the Indians," he said.

The show will take place in Delhi from March 29 to April 1.

India has overtaken China as the world's largest conventional arms buyer in the last five years, according to a report from the Swedish Stockholm International Peace Research Institute released last week.

India spent $12.7 billion on weapons in that period, 80 percent of which came from Russia.

. .
but i would have been more happy if this was the news for arjun mk2

. . . .
If they can replace current order with advanced version then I think we should go for it ...

but is this possible ?????

.
If anything is new in this tank and russians r keeping the price same as the older one than go for it...
There is not much choice left for much..

.
Or if the main design is same - we should just upgrade our current T 90s to this standard - If there are any new orders they should go to the Arjun mk2.

They can't replace it, they had to buy the technologies to change the production lines and build the new version insead of the current Bishima, just like HAL will soon produce Super 30s and not current MKIs anymore.

Well cost is surely more than old version but this is really good to buy new technology rather than upgrading it later

And btw are you sure HAL will make only Super 30 not MKIs ????

Relax guys, they're just displaying it to us. Doesn't mean we are BUYING it. Arjun Mk2 is already on its way and even Mk3 is being considered. DRDO must have been successful in convincing the Army which is why talks for a Mk. 3 have come up.

One thing is guaranteed: Arjun series is going to be the future of our armored arsenal.

Of course, nothing comes for free. Yes the 42 additional ones will be upgraded versions and will be added to HALs production lines, while HAL already will upgrade the early MKIs with the new features.
