Russia ranks 14th in Bloomberg's Global Innovation Index

The Bloomberg agency has made a list of the most innovative countries. At first, a group of experts examined 200 countries and the autonomous regions, and then their number was reduced to 96. Finally, the list comprised the top 50 innovative countries. According to the results of the research, the USA tops the list and Russia ranks in 14th place. It is the only post-Soviet country and member of BRICS that made it in the top 25.

The innovation level of each country is measured according to seven factors: Research and experimental development (R&D) intensity, R&D as a percentage of GDP, high tech density, researcher concentration, manufacturing capability, tertiary efficiency and patent activity.

Russia is good with the third factor, high tech density, and is number two in the list as far as this criterion is concerned. The Russian Federation also occupies the second place in tertiary efficiency and is number eight in patent activity.

Russia came up short in the areas of manufacturing capability, in 38th place and in research and experimental development intensity, having ranked 41st place.
