Russia has begun test flights of its first series-produced Su-35S Flanker-E multirole fighter, in Komsomolsk-on-Amur Air Field, Russia.
Su-35 Flanker-E aircraft's propulsion and control systems were tested in the air, after which the fighter will be handed over to the Russian Defence Ministry.
The Su-35 Flanker-E, an upgraded version of the Su-27 fighter jet, is a single-seat multirole fighter powered by two 117S engines with thrust vectoring.
The aircraft is capable of engaging several air targets simultaneously using both guided and unguided missiles and weapon systems.
The Russian Defence Ministry plans to acquire 48 units of the fighter aircraft under a $2.5bn deal signed with Sukhoi in 2009.
