A couple of years ago, Mitsubishi wanted to get into this market niche too and their first potential customer was Viet Nam . We offer to buy their jet but the condition was that 30% of the value of the plane had to be manufactured in Viet Nam. They refused so no deal was signed. What a loss for both sides
Well now you can consider the SuperJet 100 for regional airliners like VietJet, Air Mekong etc while you could consider the bigger A-320 class Irkut MS-21 as a good option. Think about it; lower fuel costs, better efficiency and you becoming their launch customer.
The thing is we already operate An-148 in non-scheduled operations; At least the deal had been signed. So only time will tell whether the SuperJet 100 and MS-21 will find big clients in India or not. Aviation is not really good looking right now in our country thanks to the disaster called Air India.
