CHD622V20 was on its way to Russia

Basically, Russia navy will rely on Chinese engines (both gas turbine and diesel) in foreseeable future.

BTW, Russia still has advantage at nuclear/steam turbine engines.

Russians are pragmatic people and don't let ego and pride get in the way of acquiring equipment that fits their needs. They know China is catching up fast to Russia and the West in military hardware and many Chinese offerings are already adequate for the Russian military. Chinese equipment will only get better as more money is poured into R&D and expect Russia and other nations to buy more high-tech Chinese weapons, as they get past dated preconceptions that Chinese hardware is substandard to Western ones. Smart countries, like Russia, evaluate military hardware on what performance they can deliver and don't get hung up on where they originated from.

Can you tell me if this engine is totally designed and manufactured by China, or just manufactured by China under license?

I don't know if China is allowed to re-export to Russia if it's built under license especially if the license is issued by western country, US will be p1ssed.

you should feel happy to this news. It brings benefits to Vietnam as well. So next time when you buy warships from Russia, you could have more options on engine suppliers. :-)

Manufactured under license is still very good start, since I think China can manufacture most of parts, not just assembly-under-license like India or Indonesia do. However, I would be more happy seeing that the engine is designed by China as well.

Hechai Successfully Developed Domestic Maximum Power&High-speed Marine Diesel Engine

On the production site of Henan Diesel Engine Industry Co., Ltd, the workers are assembling and debugging self-developed CHD622V20 high-speed and high-power diesel engine. The company aimed at the world high-speed and high-power diesel marine engine technology, domestic and international market demand. It takes three years of research to development this new high-speed and high-power diesel engine, and the power for this engine can reach 3200 kW, filled the more than 3000 kW power gap of domestic high-speed and high-power diesel engine. It also successfully passed the certification of China classification society and the second generation emission certification. The technical indexes of products reach the international advanced and leading domestic level; come with completely independent intellectual property rights. Henan Diesel Engine Industry Co., Ltd became the professional manufacturer who firstly developed the high-speed and high-power marine diesel engine with more than 3000 kW in domestic ship industry.

Thanks.

.............Why nobody ever told the whole story anymore??

The Russian Buyan Class corvette originally used twin Detroit Marine MTU 16V 4000M90 engine but was forced to find another source for it CODAD M520 upgrade after US sanction. Then they picked up Chinese CHD622V20

The first 6 ship of the Buyan-M Class still uses Detroit Marine Engine, and from 636 onward, the M520 have changed to CHD622V20.

I don't think Russia have this type of pumpjet engine developed to begin with which, mostly used in leisure boat. And since they cannot buy from the west due to sanction, the only place to get them is China or Maybe Iran or North Korea.

So? You mean Russia navy has no standard or parameter set for their own specification? The Russia navy definitely do see the specification of Chinese engine and deem they are good enough for replacement of the MTU. They don't just put any tom dick Harry engine as replacement.

They are not pragmatic and they have plenty of ego. If they are really that practical people. They would have collaborate with China on UCAV and buy China wing loong UCAV. Everybody knows China is ahead of drone in civilians military market compare to Russia. They decide to work with Israel who has close ties with US which is not a very wise idea show more or less of their stubbornness and ego.

As for engine, it is a internal thing which hardly any layman could see it. They try to be hush hush over such issue and keep a low profile that they need to buy from China.

A little off topic, long time a go I ve noticed, absurd lying in russian decision to to buy outdated israeli drones, instead much more capable and armed chinese ones

After quite a bit of thinking, I deem to know what is behind it. Russian leadership is affraid of China. Not in most immediate manner, but in the long run. Russia is suspicious of possible future claims on russian far east territories. Thats why Russia preferred deals with western countries. Remember sino soviet 1969 border conflict

Russia acquire chinese diesels, since they are out of options , now
