Rostec will sign a contract with China on joint production of advanced heavy helicopters by the end of 2016.

"Russia will sign a firm contract with the Chinese partners for the advanced heavy helicopter production by the end of this year," Director of International Cooperation and Regional Development Viktor Kladov said during the exhibition, Inoprom-2016, Rostec reported Monday.

Indian Air Force operates the Mi-26 the largest and most powerful helicopter to have ever entered production is the gargantuan Russian Mi-26 'Halo'

The corresponding intergovernmental agreement was signed recently in Beijing in the presence of Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to the document, the Russian and Chinese parties will jointly develop the advanced heavy helicopter for its subsequent serial production in China, aiming to meet the demand at the Chinese market. Russian Helicopters will contribute its technologies to the project and will also provide technical parameters as well as develop individual AHL systems on the contractual base.

IDN VIEW:

The Mi-26 can already haul vehicles that are larger than what can fit even into a C-130 Hercules, including everything from armored personnel carriers to dump trucks. Yet China has had a uniquely large demand for heavy under-slung cargo carrying ability, for both construction and logistical purposes and there has been talk for the last decade or two about how a super-heavy lift helicopter could change the way some structures are built.
Originally, this new Russian-Chinese design was thought to be an outgrowth of the Mi-26T2, although this is now inaccurate as Chinese performance demands are far outside any existing designs' theoretical capabilities.

Chinese state company Avicopter will be responsible for the organization and implementation of the AHL program in general, including engineering design, creation of prototypes, performance of tests, certification, preparation and serial production, as well as market promotion and general coordination of activities.
