BEIJING, October 10 (Itar-Tass) — Russia and China have entered the final phase in the negotiations on the crationt of long-range plane project, RF Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Zhukov told journalists on the results of the 15th meeting of the Russian-Chinese commission for the preparation of regular meetings between the two countries’ governments.

“We’ve come to grips with discussing the project to create a long-haul wide-body plane,” said Zhukov. “Our Chinese partners have taken a long time to consider if they should engage in cooperation with us, and now we are closely dealing with this.”

The RF deputy prime minister also said that another project on the creations of a heavy helicopter is being actively discussed at present.

According to Zhukov, the issues of energy resources supply to China were not discussed on Monday. A special venue – the energy dialogue forum have been created to address these issues, he said.

“Today, we have not discussed these issues at the meeting of the commission for the preparation of the meetings of the prime ministers. They will be discussed within the prime ministers’ dialogue and at their meeting,” the RF deputy prime minister said.

RF Prime Minister Vladimir Putin will pay a working visit to Beijing on October 11-12 at the invitation of Premier of the Chinese State Council Wen Jiabao. During the visit, Putin will take part in the 16th regular meeting of the heads of government of Russia and China in Beijing and have a conversation with Chinese President Hu Jintao, the RF government’s press service reported earlier. “During Russian-Chinese talks, the sides plan to discuss a wide range of issues of economic, scientific, technical and humanitarian cooperation. Special attention will be paid to the improvement of the mutual trade infrastructure, expansion of investment interaction and cooperation in highly technological fields, and implementation of long-term projects in the field of energy. The sides will also exchange opinions on topical international and regional problems,” it said.

something like Airbus A330?

Good news. Great to see the Russians coming over with these proposals. We have the expertise and funding for such projects so long they are worthy of funding.

I still prefer China to make this alone, since the Russian civilian jetliners were known for its notorious reputation of being unreliable.

Pretty sure whatever deemed unreliable will not be integrated. It would be reliable and the better concepts from both sides converging into one.

China is always better to perform the individual project than the group project.

This so-called joint development is just merely a political slogan, nothing concrete will be implemented at the end.

And China will only focus the development of the civilian jetliner by itself.

Political it is indeed, but one must not brush it aside without merits. Such developments could pave way for other things and in a world so diverse it is best not to isolate yourself in. We have many indigenous projects under going and see no harm in undertaking joint projects be it political or not.

Russia is not stupid...China civilian aircraft market is big..so they want a piece of cake..so by co-develop new long-haul wide body plane will guanrantee the access to the market, china should develop it own wide body no matter how difficult it will be...we willl have less drama and complication by doing ourself.

Commercial jets should be viewed in different persepctive from military jets. It is a commercial project and main aim of developing it is to make profit and economic returns to company and country. There is no national security and no political sanctions/embargo likely to be involved. Success is not judged by how fast the plane can fly, how many passenger can it carry etc, but by the number of planes sold and amount of profit made.

While Russian aim to to have a share in China market, China should aim to penetrate the international market. To secure successful bulk sales, the plane must be economical to operate, reliable and plane manufacturers have reputable past records. To attract customers, reliable components from reputable sources have to be incorporated into the plane.

The point is you can not sell in economic quantity a 100% China made plane, or a 100% Russian made plane or a 50-50 Sino-Russian plane until you have attend a well received reputation.

China is a very new player with ARJ21 and Comac 919 in the pipeline, but China has not yet earned the desired reputation. The days will come only after ARJ21 and Comac 919 has flown in China domestic and a few international routes for 5 to 10 years and prove their reliability. Safety views and reliability perspective of international operators and passengers will then influence how much international market share Chinese commercial planes will have. Chinese proverb A Good Begining is Half the Success Achieved applies.

With Chinese market dominated by ARJ21, COMAC 919, Airbus and Boeing. Orders from foreign operators may decide the fate whether this long haul jet will have successful sales.

Do some research before you comment. Many of the crashes that have occurred have involved Antonov's which are Ukrainian made; moreover, many of the Antonov's that crashes did so not because of mechanical problems, and lastly most of all so called 'Russian' civilian airliners that did crash were old, very old.

Remember what I said in the other thread about making claims--this post is a perfect example.

I think Co development is great prospect for Russia and China , as the engineering power is unrivaled

These two could make best planes in industry

100% agreed

Russians are good technicians but bad buzinessmen. They should have stepped in China with more joint ventures and made lots of profits.

This is a very important step if China wants to be the leader in commercial aviation. Their first step would be to learn from Russia's successes and mistakes, and then they can apply it to their ownm COMAC jets.
