An engine problem forced Russia to abort the takeoff of its new T-50 stealth plane at an air show outside Moscow on Sunday, officials said.

The pilot "stopped the take-off due to technical defects," a spokeswoman for the MAKS international airshow told AFP, adding that the Sukhoi fighter never even left the ground.

The plane was still undergoing tests so technical glitches were to be expected and the pilot "simply chose not to take risks," the spokeswoman said.

A spokeswoman for the state-run United Aircraft Corporation, the parent company of plane-maker Sukhoi, attributed the problem to a fault with the right engine.

Experts will be closely looking into what caused the glitch, she told AFP, noting there was no plan to take the plane into the air again later Sunday.

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin attended the air show on Wednesday, when the T-50, which is being developed jointly by Russia and India, made its first public flight.

It is one of the two of the sleek fighter jets being showcased and test-flown at the annual show which began Tuesday.

The MAKS air spokeswoman said the planes had flown without a hitch over the previous four days.

Russian officials have said the final version of the T-50 will not be ready until the end of 2016, although the country's air force expects to receive the first jets within three years.

. . .
T-50 is an third-half jet, still hardly reliable.

What the hell do you mean by "third-half jet", :what: F-35 and the F-22 have had so many failures during their development that its hard too count, does that mean their third-half jets too.

You still expect it to rival with F22 or J20?

Yes when fully developed by 2015, PAK FA will rival the J-20 and F-22:coffee:

No way. Russian defense industry is dying slowing, you have to develop your own.

Russian Defense industry is only dying in your dreams :blah: Orders for the Russian Defense industry are at the highest level since the collapse of the Soviet Union.:hitwall:

Did you know that a F-22 canopy got stuck trapping the pilot recently?
Did you know that landing-gear malfunctions caused considerable damage to some F-22s?
Did you know that F-22 crashes lead to grounding of the fleet for investigation?

So how reliable is the F-22 that costs a whopping $360 million dollars apiece? Dump it, right? It may be even worse than the J-20!

Cheers!

oh friend stop being so naive...every major project has had crashes and troubles...only chinese have done things without any such incidents :) and we all know how they do it :)

.
these things occur with new technology....

lots of bugs still need to be fixed with 5th gen fighter jets

what are you talking about? the IDEA of F22 is far more advanced though mechnical malfuction is often seen in the R&D period. It has no rival for a long time until J-20 appears.

The halt of F22 development is only a time window for,

to sell better F35(marketable);
to gain advantages over J20, its main rival in the future, for a point to point remodel.

Flight glitches are common to every program. Call me when some plane crashes. Anyone questioning the capability either the J20 or the Pak FA is only fooling themselves. Comparisons to the F-22 are understandable but unfair. Both these models are going to significantly outnumber the F-22 upon inception. Besides, all 3 are radically different designs. Just because they are 5th gen does not mean they have the same attributes as the other. Each one is going to have it's own strength and weakness. Eventually it will come down to Detection systems and weapons on-board.

I wish you guys continue underestimating your adversary just like you always have.

I highly doubt the program is in jeopardy. Also the first F-22 prototype cashed as well. The pilot was simply playing it smart.

By now you should know that there is no shortage of clowns taking cheap shots at US or Russian aircraft when there is a design flaw, grounding or crash.

There is a reason that the pak-fa will under fo 2000 test flights, and that reason is to discover and correct problems. There is not one aircraft that has not had flaws, but the cheap shots come out in full force, ironically when a Chinese aircraft crashes the same cheap shots are no where to be found, yet when a US or Russian aircraft is grounded or it is discovered to have a flaw the same children start taunting and celebrating.

If any one thinks that Chinese aircraft don't have flaws, than i say they are brain dead morons.

Look at the newest Russian aircraft such as the SU-30, of the hundreds that are in service how many of them have crashed? Now look at the newest Chinese aircraft and how many have crashed or at least leak to the public--and China isn't exactly up front or willing to reveal all its crashes.

The title of your thread aught to have been, "Pilot aborts Russian T-50 PAK-FA test flight at Airshow". But then you know that, right?

.
Pakistanis jumping up and down with glee : "Oh look PAK-FA has engine issues, its bound to fail , we will crush them them with J-10 , J-20 blah blah"

Such immature comment. What are you , 10 ?

Every fighter development has its glitches. Sorry , how would you know , right ?
