Sadli Salauddin and Soumin Islam, two brilliant third year students of Electrical and Electronic Engineering department of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology made a robot, which is able to take commands in Bangla language and function accordingly.
The duo claims that they had made the first robot, which is capable to understand instructions in Bangla.
‘The robot is able to send messages and live videos of what is happening in its vicinity to its commander or operator who can track its functions’, said Soumin.
The robot can also work following gestures. According to Sadli, the robot has been facilitated with special in-built sensor so that it can assist people with speech disabilities who can send signals through their body movement.
‘A person can operate the robot from any corner of the world by accessing internet and by installing a controlling code in the robot through which it can send certain messages to the instructor or commander regarding its functions’, Sadli added.
The robot can also be connected with the satellite through Global Positioning System through which the exact location of the robot can be known using the world map and its activities can be easily monitored.
The robot was displayed at the RUET campus on Tuesday for the time, which was attended by the university vice-chancellor professor Dr. Mortuza Ali and head of the electrical department professor Rafiqul Islam Sheikh.
The exhibition of the robot drew a large number of teachers, students and general visitors. During exhibition, the robot was seen to follow the instructions to move right, left, pause and move again following Bangla instructions.
‘We are proud of the creation of our scientifically talented students as it is the first robot in the world that can understand Bangla language for its operation’, said vice-chancellor professor Dr. Mortuza Ali.
‘If the project is taken up by a renowned company in the relevant field and the robot could be manufactured commercially, the country could be hugely benefitted’, he added.
