New Delhi, Feb 3:Right-wing organization Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) praised the Bollywood movie ‘Airlift’, calling it patriotic and reflector of ‘true spirit of India’. The Akshay Kumar-starrer film’s story is based upon the condition prevailing in Kuwait during the first Gulf War, where scores of Indian-origin workers were left stranded when the then dictator of Iraq, Saddam Hussein launched an-all out war against the miniscule Gulf nation.

According to an editorial in its mouthpiece in Panchjanya, the movie is an example of how strong India could be if it is united. “The movie shows how Indians, united as members of one nation could fight against all odds. If we apply our efforts in one direction, we can surely achieve anything,” he said.(ALSO READ: Akshay Kumar speaks out against Aamir Khan and his intolerance remark: ‘You cannot make such bold statements’)

The editorial further says, “The rescue of 1,70,000 Indians from Kuwait (as shown in the movie) evokes love for the motherland.” It also critically appreciates the role of bureaucracy shown in the movie. “Although there are a few mistakes like the scene where the secretary of external affairs ministry is shown seated on a chair amid the crowd, but that should be pardoned. Overall, it depicts the sluggish functioning of bureaucracy in the right manner.”

Further praising the movie, the editorial adds, “The movie is part of the new form of narrative stories on patriotism. The changed stance actually reflects the perception of society towards patriotism and nationalism.”

Airlift has turned highly popular and majority of pro-establishment supporters have appreciated the movie. At a time when prominent Bollywood actors are drawing flak due to their comments on the raging ‘intolerance’ debate in the nation, veteran actor Akshay Kumar has received support from even the far-right section of society for emerging as a nationalist hero.

Although, ‘Airlift’ has received unprecedented success, Ministry of External Affairs have disapproved the depictions in the movie which are subtly passed over as historical facts. Commenting on the movie, MEA spokesperson Vikas Swarup said: “Airlift is good on entertainment, but falls short on facts.”

i decided to boycott the film when i saw the trailer, what two months ago, on pdf... why in the name of humanity did the film have to insult and defame the iraqis?? was it only to find yet another excuse to wave the infamous vulgarity of indian nationalism??

did the film show the lying testimony of the daughter of kuwaiti ambassador to usa?? that testimony was the "that dictator is killing civilians, including women and children" excuse needed by usa's genocidal government to invade iraq.

did the film show the "highway of death" between iraq and kuwait, the legally agreed retreat by the iraqi military that was bombed and bombed and bombed by gleeful and maniac usa airforce, until the highway was filled with burnt out vehicles and the exemplar of the burnt people being that famous photo of the truck driver, mummified by the incendiary bombs from above, still sitting upright... google for the photo.

did the film show iraqi soldiers throwing out indian babies from kuwaiti hospital incubators, along with kuwaiti babies, as said by cnn, bbc, white house, no. 10 downing street??

why do some indians have to wallow in filth?? why can't they act as humans with gentleness, empathy and melancholic intellect??

akshay kumar's wife, twinkle khanna, writes famously on india's social and political issues... i wonder how she feels about this film.

so what next?? will madhur bhandarkar, ashoke pandit and anupam kher co-produce similar films about circumstances in syria and libya??

i had decided to not indulge in political discussions but why can't india live a calm, progressive and harmonious life??

5 Did Inidan Govt and Air India not make efforts to rescue those Indians by operating flights to Amman, Jordan
6 Was there not 400+ flights operated by Air India to rescue all the Indians
7 Was it not a world record recue effort by any country in the world
