MIAMI (WSVN) - Royal Caribbean celebrated the long-awaited grand opening of its new terminal at Port Miami.
According to the cruise line, the 170,000-square-foot terminal is set to become the world’s largest and most modern cruise facility.
It’s designed to accommodate guests on two of the world’s largest cruise ships, and is expected to increase guest traffic at the port by 1.8 million annually.

Currently 3 Oasis class cruise ships are based in US ports. in a few days the 4th will be added making the US the sole market for all the ships in the largest cruise class of the world.

World’s Largest Cruise Ship Nears Miami Debut

Symphony of the Seas which is the world’s largest cruise ship nears her Miami debut. The Royal Caribbean cruise ship will begin cruises from the Florida port on November 9, 2018.
Symphony of the Seas Set for Miami Debut
Symphony of the Seas which isn’t just the largest cruise ship int he world but also the fourth Oasis-class vessel is very near to her beginning new cruises from PortMiami, Florida. As of writing this, there are just 19 days until the ship arrives at the cruise capital of the world.
Since entering service in the Spring the ship’s inaugural season has been spent in Europe based out of Barcelona, Spain. The Royal Caribbean ship will depart the Spanish port for the final time on October 28 on a transatlantic voyage. Symphony of the Seas will call in Malaga and Port Canaveral during the 12-night cruise. The arrival in Port Canaveral will be the first time the ship arrives in the U.S. and then the next day on November 9 the ship will arrive in Miami.

On the same day, Symphony of the Seas will depart on a short 4-night Western Caribbean cruise including a call in Cozumel, Mexico. the ship will arrive back in Miami on November 13. From November 17 the Oasis class vessel will kick off a new 7-night year-round service sailing the Eastern and Western Caribbean. The itineraries will even include a much-anticipated call the newly upgraded CocoCay, Royal Caribbean’s private island in the Bahamas.
To prepare for Symphony of the Seas‘ new adventure from Florida the cruise line is partnering with the GRAMMY Museum – the official foundation of the Recording Academy. The newly announced program will help fund twenty local Miami-Dade school music education programs and there will be a chance to perform at the Symphony of the Seas naming ceremony.
While we’re on the topic of the naming ceremony, it will be held when the ship arrives in Miami on November 9. It’s going to be a busy day for the ship as she makes history by being the largest ever cruise ship to sail from the U.S.
Symphony of the Seas is an impressive 230,000 gross tons with a guest capacity of over 5,500 at double occupancy. Highlights onboard include the Ultimate Family Suite, Ultimate Abyss 10-storey slide, Laze Tag and the new Playmakers Sports Bar. The ship is fully featured and truly is a floating city of the seas.
