I am posting here a video on life of the Muslim Rohingya Muhajirs from Arakan/ Myanmar for all posters to watch and contribute. I will also keep on posting similar videos. Their lives have been completely transformed here.

They have apartments, education centers and recreational facilities provided by the GoB, UN and many volunteer groups.

Their women have been given goats, ducks and chickens so that they can start their own farms. They are producing vegetables in the virgin soil. I believe they will be given lands to produce staples and other foods. The Char/ island has an area of 40 sq.km.

Rohingya refugees can now rear buffalo, ducks, chicken, sheep and pigeons in Bhashan Char. They will be allowed to cultivate rice also. It will reduce their dependence upon the aids given by the GoB and the UN.

The govt wants this community to become self-reliant in many of their daily necessities. With 20 sq.km of new land forming every year here and there in the Bay of Bengal, the country will become another land of opportunities in the near future. Bhashan Char itself has an area of 39 sq.km.

I hope, the UN does not push destitute people from other regions to live in these new islands.

Well if lifestyle is so comfy - should Rohingyas feel inclined to go back home?

That is a good question.

I believe, the older people will be nostalgic, women will not. The children do not know where is Arakan.

So, it is possible that Rohingyas will not go back to their native land unless the regional politics is favorable. However, they are not living in the farmhouses which are more comfortable than the ghetto quarters in Bhashan Char. Yet, they are very happy, though!!

The UN and the GoB want them to support themselves with their own efforts. That is why so many job trainings are being provided to them. So, if they are self-sufficient I find no harm if they stay here.

When they produce, it will add to our GDP. Without people living, many islands would remain non-productive, and every year about 20 sq. km. of new lands are rising above the BoB.
