Who needs higher education anyway, right? (NOT!)

You are quite right. Muslims were the best until 13th Century that is more than enough for us to feel great. All we need is graduation from a Madrasah and obedience to Mull Omer or who so ever is the Ameer ul Momeneen and all our problems will disappear. This is what Khilafat lovers and Islamist parties desire. Since the elite can always send their children abroad; they have no problem. Besides, females students have been doing rather well in higher education and woman’s place is in the home.

HEC was Musharraf’s legacy anyway. Better for everyone that it should be eliminated. To hell with improving the quality of Pak human resource.

What does that suppose to mean?

When you choose to ignore the news of education records of Pakistani kids, does not mean they don't exist?

Same kids need higher education and later opportunities as well.

I had once mentioned that, an 'A' level kid from my family was called upon by NASA back in 2006. Point is that such kids are being prepared by schools but absence of Higher education only hints at anti Pakistan forces at work.

Story of Pakistani leadership.. defile, repent..or re-brand all that has been done by thy predecessor.
Nawaz did that to Benazir on the Missile program by calling it his own..
Musharraf did that to nawaz by calling all of PML(N)'s projects as his own..
And now PPPP is shunning all that Musharraf did or re branding it as their own.

Wonderful explanation by HEC initiator:

bt PPP has done nothing

So it means PTI will do nothing in the next 5 years?

Depends on the PTI.. after all.. it seems they have taken on most of the ex-Musharrafis many of whom are technocrats.
Now whether these people will take any potential PTI power blocks or the political boosts that PTI has in mind remains to be seen.
Currently though.. the charm of the Tsunami is wearing out as the PTI is not showing anything concrete in terms of the plans it had promised to show.
Less be said of Musharraf.. as I was present at his "revival" attempt recently in Islamabad with the ex-mil off and businessmen flown in from Karachi and elsewhere.. Funny to say the least.
Lets see, perhaps a humbled Musharraf may prove useful in reviving some of the better projects started during his tenure.
One has to give him credit in making good decisions where Pakistan's education and civil development sectors were concerned.

As for the PPP(P).. they have done NOTHING for the country as concrete.. but have made some useless but significant accomplishments where the political and constitutional framework of Pakistan is concerned... apart from setting a record in corruption.

I could shout "EDUCATION, EDUCATION, EDUCATION!" till I die and even then the importance would not be adequately highlighted, such is its importance I feel.

My comment was sarcastic, and correctly understood by Niaz. :D

And please don't blame anything other than Pakistani incompetence and shortsightedness. There is no role of anti-Pakistan forces here.

Dr. Atta ur rehman is really a brilliant asset we have, when i read his profile some days ago i stunned to see her achievement that our HEC was having such a brilliant mind, but now when i look at HEC really it makes me sad.. GOD HELP US

Some background of Dr. Atta ur rehman

Atta-ur-Rahman has had a prominent record in Cambridge Overseas School Certificate in 1958, and 'A' Levels in 1960 from the Karachi Grammar School. In 1963, he received B.Sc (Hons.) in Chemistry, followed by M.Sc in Organic Chemistry from Karachi University. He received Commonwealth Scholarship in 1965 to study for Ph.D in Organic Chemistry under supervision of Dr. J. Harley Mason and received Ph.D at Kings College, Cambridge in 1968.

He was subsequently awarded a Doctorate of Science by University of Cambridge in 1987, a Doctorate of Education by Coventry University in 2007,[2] a Doctorate of Science by Bradford University in 2010, a Doctor of Philosophy by Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand in 2010 and honorary Doctor of Scıence by Unıversıty of Technology Mara. Malaysıa.

I hear stories from my Father,

1) That a child of a poor farmer, if he/she was a scholar could become a doctor, engineer or anything he/she wanted to be.
2) No Pakistani ever went to sleep hungry
3) PIA used to be a world class Airline

Even though I have not lived in Pakistan, I have heard that the HEC was a great organization. PPP disbanded it so the provinces would have more control over what is taught (decentralize). However, the provinces have not even made any successor to the HEC. The fake medicines in Lahore( well all over Pakistan), the PPP disbanded the National Institute of Health; the provinces didnt make a successor to the NIH either. Great Future dont you think?

He had a good team.. its when he changed his team and allowed some of them to have too much power is when he began to fail.
They all start out good.. But the seat of power in Pakistan is cursed, more cursed than any seat has ever been.

We always forget the role of mass communication in supporting the higher education.

Internet in Pakistan was revolutionized by P.Musharraf.

Broadband service was taken to thousands of smaller towns and cities.
