Returning home: Hundreds more leave Jalozai camp for Mohmand
Published: November 24, 2011
MOHMAND AGENCY: Hundreds of families that lived in the Jalozai camp for displaced persons left on Thursday to return home after over three years.
About 313 families left for Tehsil Safi, Bizai , Khuzai and Pindyali in the Mohmand Agency from the internally displaced persons (IDP) camp of Jalozai.
During the 2009 military operation, around 9,000 families were shifted to this camp by security forces when an operation was launched in the agency against militants.
In June this year, around 8,000 families went back to Mohmand as security forces started the rehabilitation process.
Now, only 846 families are left in the camp, as today 313 familes have been shifted to their native villages.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has provided gas cylinders, food, transportation, winter packages and hygiene kits to the families who left the Jalozai camp today.
FATA Disaster Management Authority has already established two centers in Khar, Bajaur and Ghalani area of Mohmand Agency, where special food packages will also be provided only to the affected people returning from Jalozai camp, an official told The Express Tribune.
Skirmish at camp
The driver of one of the vehicles being used to transport the displaced persons back home was baton-charged by a security official after an exchange of words.
Express 24/7 correspondent Umer Farooq reported that the driver refused to drive the vehicle as he claimed the passengers were not ready to leave the camp. When he resisted, the security official baton-charged him until a group of displaced persons and other officials broke the fight.
